What time of day do you chop your outdoor plants and why
permalink

Good Morning

So, at what time of day do you chop your outdoor plants.

When i first started growing many years ago...a grower friend told me to always harvest first thing in the morning....before dawn and the sun comes up...he said something about the buds being more potent after their overnite dormant spell....

Anyways, it has become habit for me to harvest at this time of day.

I wonder if there really is any science behind this?

I would much rather harvest at the end of the day, while the sun is still out....as the plants are much drier. Early in the morning the plants are dew and condensation loaded and thus are soaking wet.

So when do you chop and why.....?

K.

LMFAO...but I agree and this is also one of the reasons....last thing you want after a season of work is to get nailed as you harvest....thats for sure....

I remember reading/seeing something about cutting them down at the end of the day, so the plants get one last full light cycle, but I can't say if that really buys you anything.

I grow indoors, by crop, and I harvest early in the day, so I can get the plants hung, then get everything cleaned, washed down, and replanted by the end of the day. This more a matter of practicality than anything to do with the state of the plant at the time.

I would have thought some of the botany experts would have chimed in with a scientific approach...?

I am going to switch to harvesting at dusk for the next few plants....namely because they will not be so wet after having the day to dry out.....that is unless someone has a good reason to harvest at a different time.

Thanks for the comments

No botany expert BUT this was my very reasoning behind doing it at night also.
Nobody sees you and the buds have had a chance to dry out throughout the day.
There is nothing worse than bringing in armloads of wet buds into the house. You're asking for more of a hassle plus the added bonus of molds and fungus stuff makes it even worse

The air is cooler and crisper and there is more mystique to it .......owl and bats and stuff flying around, with coyotes howling in the background makes nice accoustic sounds for additional harvesting pleasure, which is way kewl.

If there is some type of difference in potency , I can't see it being THAT much of a difference to put myself into this much more work and hassle.

Good topic kawliga

My understanding is that plants absorb light energy during the day and use that energy to grow at night, in the dark. So wouldn't harvesting at the end of your dark period yield the highest return, right after that final growth bit? Isn't this why lots of indoor growers give their plants 24-48 hours of dark right before harvest?

But in reality we're talking minimal differences here so I'll just harvest at what ever time is most convenient.
