Ok I new to the growing weed thing(the plants are only a week and a half old). Right now I got a few growing outdoor but hope to grow indoor when money permits. Ive been told several things about growing indoors. Some say it will smell up a good amount of an apartment and so on AND some say it wont smell all that bad but even if it does a air filter (heppa(sp) filter) will do it. I relize this could be different based on the type of weed but can someone give me a `in general` answer?

My other question is this, Im clueless when you say something about letting the now dried leaves `cure`. What exactly does that process involve and about how much time ? I relize these answers that involve smell and time can not be very very specific but I`d appreciate any input...thanks

Pipe Dreamz, Welcome to Hemp Cultivation.

Many cannabis strain produce a lot of odour. Many produce almost none. You are right that it depends on strain. I recently read a report of one strain that started skunky and finished fruity.

How you deal with the smell will depend on you location and finances. An Ozone generator is the best. Plans are available all over the net if your mechanically inclined.

Like wine Marijuana, Sinsemillia especially, improves with time. An older plant will produce better budz, and those budz will improve in flavour, bouquet, and potentcy with curing, which is storage.

The slower your buds dry the better. Heat and light both degrade THC into cannaboids. Some of the cannaboids break down into other substances. A dark closet with a moderate temperature change is best in my opinion. I have noticed if then temperature flucuates the chemical reactions going on within the plant continue longer and there is less "green" taste. This is hard for me to explain because I have almost no sense of smell. (it involves a bullet and my head, long story.) When I smoke "commercial" budz all I taste is the "grassy" flavour of the chlorophyl. When I smoke Sinse I can actually taste the "flavour" of the strain.

Cureing is very simply. The hardest ingredient to find for the curing process to be successful is patience. Curing takes time. It's the same difference between a bottle of last years wine you buy at the grocery store and the bottle that has been sitting in a cellar somewhere for 100 years.

When your budz are "crispy to the touch and the stem cracks instead of bending they are "dry". This is the point most commercial growers stop and ship. You on the other hand want your buds to "ripen" to their fullest and place them in an air tight container. Tupperware, metal tins, various boxes, and the favourite "Mason" jar can all be used for the Cure. Place them into a wide mouth jar loosely and close the lid. In 12 hours open the lid for 1 hour. "Fluff" the buds gently (imagine a jar of roaches and your looking for the biggest one ) then replace the lid. If you notice any moisture the budz are not dry and should go back into the closet for a day. After a week of daily openings the budz will have improved immensly. Now close the jar, put it in a dark cool place and leave it for at least a month. Some people wrap it in foil and put it in the freezer. After a month a bud may be considered "Cured", again IMO.

I know it may seem inconceivable that you can let a jar full of budz (or a dozen Jars ) sit around for a Minimum of a month, but every home grower I know produces more than they can consume.

Set you goal on the third full cycle. By that time you have enough personal experience to fully understand what you are reading now. Experience leads to wisdom.

I hope that answered your question. I am high right now and forgot what I was doing for a minute.

Howdy pîpÉ drÉamz,

BD gots some good advice even if one doesn't understand him at times (just kiddin BD).

There is still "some" moisture in the buds center when you reach a state as aforementioned by BD (i.e. crispy to touch and cracking stems). You air it out to release the moisture that has built up in the sealed environment and to introduce new fresh air. Over the course of airing it out you will notice the grassy hay smell start to dimishish. Sure you can put a bunch of buds together just don't pack them down when you do or you may run the risk of creating a mold breeding ground. Just let the buds settle in don't push them down. I seperate the main cola and secondary budding sites into different containers just so that I can see the difference in the smoke between the two. But you can put them all in the same container just don't pack it full.

Hope that helps clear it up a little for ya...

Happy Harvest

Hey BD no one can read what you posted an not know that you have done it all before. I posted about using a dehumidfier box that I built. I use the box to remove the bulk of the moisture, the start my cure. My bud comming out of the box is abouy 75% dry. I then pack the buds into mason jars and close the lids. Mow I check the jars every day for about 2 weeks. I open the lid and check the condition of the bud. If it still seems a bit too wet I leave the lid open for a while. Then after a couple of hours I close it back up again. This goes on until the buds have a uniform dryness and are not brittle or too wet. Once I am happy and very stoned I pack the jars into a small fridge that keeps the jars at about 35-40 degrees. Its dark and cool. The fridge smells like skunk and the bud keeps for many months in pristine smokeable condition.
