Ok, gang so I have had the first plant that matured drying for about a week now in the closet (72 degree and 55% Humidity) with a fan. It is getting brittle on the outside but the buds are still somewhat damp and the stem still pliable. So I am thinking to move them in paper bags next for a few days maybe 5 to help dry them out a bit quicker then the mason jar.

But my question is "Why don't the buds smell???"
Now I have read posts about "stealth weed" etc but I grew this from seed from a bag I had. The stuff when I bought was STINKY!! I mean put it two plastic bags then in your front pocket and minutes later you'd be smelling it through your jeans! So I know this stuff is extremely smelly. So what happened? Am I drying it wrong (too fast / too slow)? Will the cure bring the smell out more. After sampling the smoke, it is a little smoother already and just about as good as the finished product but it has no smell. I could care less about it smelling as long as it is good smoke. Anyone with any ideas about what is going on?

i believe that you have to let them dry more and then they will turn stinky, also it doesnt matter if it is stinky just as long as it f*cks you up, the less stinky less chance of getting caught.

I know I agree, no complaints either , I am just wondering why was all. If there was a reason someone knew but we'll see...

Simply genetics my friend. Your plant didn't get the stink gene as strong as it's mom had it.

I have had entire crops that had no smell or smelled like mint or pine trees.

Phentypes are half the fun.

I was coming back to take that statement back!! While it wasn't that bad at all when growing and even first drying I locked it up in a tupperware container for a few days airing it out etc. and oh man does it reek! I took some to a buddies house opening day of baseball and I smelled, my car smelled, I couldn't belive it! I walked in and my friend looked at me and said damn that smells good. It was still in my pocket So the curing really seemed to bring out the smell and this smoke is MUCH smoother than the original It is still not totally ready but soon I hope. I've got another plant ready for harvest tomorrow

Just dont let your weed dry out totaly. If you want a decent cure you have to keep some moisture in it. It's the residual moisture that gives it the smooth smoke and the smell.

How do you know if it has dried "too" much?

And are there any safe remedies to help add a little moisture back into it?

I have heard I could put a couple of fresh pot leaves in the jar to reabsorb the moisture or a pice of damp sponge in the container not touching the buds.

To be honest this is the first grow where I really wanted to keep the rewards My other grows were with stress ands sucked anyway so I didn't care what happened to it.

Peace

When bmy buds get older or I find some old bud in a baggie and its dry, I put a small piece if orange rind in or a small section of apple in the bag. I won't leave ut in too long overnight will do th trick. No and then if I an really lazy I might sprinkle a few drops of water on some really dry bud. It takes experience to dry weed bud properly. You are on the right track. Experiment with it. Have fun, there are no right or wrong answers just opinions. To get a high quality cure you must use a controlled drying method. If you just put your bud in a paper bag, put it in the same spot each time and learn from the mistakes you make. Just don't use the oven or microwave to dry bud. That just makes all your hard work go up in smoke!
