| Hello all- I just cut the top buds off of my two plants the other day. They are hanging upside down in a closet with a fan blowing on them. Is this OK? This is the first batch, so i'm not exactly sure what to do. How long should they hang before curing them in a container? Once curing, should they be in the dark? I know I have a lot of questions, but they look insanly dank, & i don't want to screw it up. -Also, does curing increase the potency? Is there anything that affects potency once picked? Any and all comments welcome! -good growin' to ya l.kid | ||

| You seem to have a good handle on it. Don't let them be hitting each other as the fan blows gently on them. Once the stems "crack" you can start to cure. I prefer mason jars in a dark place. Check and rotate daily, watching closely for mold as they will sweat the remaining moisture out. Resist smoking them for as long as you can...6 or 8 weeks if ya can. Yes, potency can be increased with proper curing just as it can be diminished with poor handling. D9 [This message has been edited by Delta9 (edited May 12, 2000).] | ||

| Thanks Delta9- I didn't have mason jars so I put them in a gladware plastic container. They have probably been in there 3 weeks. Before that they were hanging upside down for 1 wk and some of the buds a little longer. The stems were dry enough to crack, but not cleanly. the bud itself seemed real dry. My problem is that they don't smell too great We have smoked some along the way and it tastes good and gets you pretty high, but I'm not sure about the smell of the buds. When I break up the bud, my fingers smell good. ? The buds are laying on top of each other in the container, is that ok. This is the first harvest and I have tons of questions. Any additional info from anyone would be great. Thanks fellas- l.kid | ||

| As long as they don't smell moldy or like ammonia you should be ok. The smell of the bud is genetic mostly, thats where good seed and breeding comes in. Some people try to artifically flavor their bud but I don't go for that, I'd rather grow good tasting, aromatic smoke. But by now you should notice some mellowing of the smoke... D9 | ||

| this is just an idea, I think that maybe over fertilization or not fluching b4 harvest could impact the smell... do they smell all planty just like regular green... plants? my first plant smelled like a plant from your garden or something and i fertilized all the way up to the end and i probably overfertilized too... jst an idea... any thoughts? phrogg ![]() | ||
