well the easiest way to dry is to just hang your plants upside down in a dark place. let them hang till the stems crack. after that you should manacure them ( take all the leaves off the bud ) and cure them ( put them in a airtight plastic container and turn the buds twie a day )

Hello folks,

Just a quick question, Once you take the buds why do you put them into a container?

How long should you leave them in?

I read that you should put them into a freezer? what would be the piont to this?

ok, more than one, but just seems to end up being more than one most of the time any how

thanks

This is the method I use:

After harvesting I hang my plants (upside down) in a warm dry place to let the stalks drain any THC that is in them into the buds. This usually takes 1-2 weeks in my barn loft.

When the stalks have dried to the point where they start to crack I remove all the buds (taking care to separate leaf) and place in paper grocery sacks with the tops rolled down. Once a day I shake the buds around to prevent them from molding.

After about a week I bag up some and dump the rest into a RubberMaid trash can that I keep in my garage for storage over the winter months.

This is just my way of doing things, there is no "best" method.

Oh, and Fear My Weed, that number of registered members refers to Marijuana.Com and these boards here at HempCultivation.Com as well.

Toke it easy, Pan.

I just pulled up about 8 plants and let them hang in the closet. The stems are crackin in about 3 days. They seem really dry. Should i smoke it yet?

That doesn't seem like long...3 days? I guess it all depends on humidity/temperature, and probably more, but if they seem dry enough, and the stems crack, try a small bud. If it's good smokin', then jar that ****!

It's better (IMO) to hang them in a cool, dry dark place, keeping a close eye on them for mold. Slow drying by placing in a paper bag Then cure them in a sealed container for as long as you can wait, 6-8 weeks is best. This will really mellow the flavor, make it burn well and help synth. CBD into THC. After this it's OK to freeze them.
Panama... I don't want to sound like I'm flamin a moderator but really, as a oldtimer you must/should know that THC doesn't "drain" anywhere...old wives tales die hard...

No offense taken, D9. The only reason I'm moderating over here on HC.Com is because I've grown outdoors a couple times and have had a little luck.

I'll be perfectly honest with everyone on these boards that 80% - 90% of what I know about growing was learned from the old hippies that lived in my small town when I was growing up. I'd say a good 10% of my knowledge on growing is based on old wives tales, but hey man, I'm the kinda guy that believes the Farmer's Almanac.

I use the same method I've been using to dry my catnip ...

<OL TYPE=1>

<LI> Clip the buds off the plant and strip them of leaves.

<LI> Stuff them into empty coffee cans (hazlenut seems to make them very tastey).

<LI> Attach a screen to the opened part of the can.

<LI> Hang the can upside-down in a place where the sun can reach it and shake daily til stems are discolored and crack.

<LI> Jar 'em.
</OL>
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, helvetica, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre>
| &lt;--string to hang
| \|/
____|______ sun--&gt; -0-
| | /|\
| Folgers |
can--&gt; | |
| B B B |
| U U U |
| D D D |
----------- &lt;---Screen
[/code]

Works great for you teens with guerilla gardens. It keeps the buds away from light and also keeps the rain from turning your work into a moldy lump.

I'd also like to hear other people's methods.
