Talking To harvest, or not to harvest that is the question
permalink

Ok here is my question. I am on day 61 of flowering. 80 percent of the hairs have turned on one and about 60 percent on the other. Temps are getting way hot. 85 during lights out period. And 95 to 100 during lights on... This is new due to summer rolling around... Also. The Techs are mostly clear. Very few Amber. I read in Mel Franks book to harvest when most crystals are amber for a couch lock stoned. Now I know all plants are different and show different signs with crystals. Should I go ahead and harvest. Or wait till the crystals are way amber... I can see heads falling off but no color. On the other plant. They are still half cloudy and half clear. So she still has another week or so. What to do. what to do..

high temps can cause pistils to change color before their natural time. but if the buds are full and juicy and everything looks good, go for it. you could also harvest the 80% one and leave the 60% one for a little longer.
good luck.
peace,
trev.

That's always been my deciding factor. Clip a bud off, pop it in the oven for 10 minutes or so, smoke it. If I like the buzz, time to harvest.

Say First,
I was holding off on Chron cuz the trichs were not amber...they were cloudy and some clear. I may have seen an amber or two, but very few. The pistles were not turned more than 50%! Cap'n told me that I ought to harvest and I did. I smoked a test J...kicked my arse. My partner "The Doctor" helped me with it...drove home...called the next day, said "holy shyte...".
Test it...If it gets ya good and stoned...twist it!

Cool guys. Well I don't believe in the pop it in the oven test. Because that is a no no in drying weed and potency. But I did harvest about a quarter off it. And dam... I am smoking some right now 5 days later. And I am getting all giggly.... LOL... And thats only 2 hits.. ****.. K.. Time to harvest boys and girls.. Thanks for the input. The true test. Try it out. If you like. then harvest. I also put here in 24 hour dark. And more hairs turned. Still very few amber crystals. Like 10 percent. But I'm game. Time to chop chop... Thanks again all.

I go by the trichomes. Clear, wait. Cloudy, harvest window is open. Amber, and you are getting over-ripe.

My 2 centivos.

I just harvested my last two girls.

Out of four, I harvested the first too early out of desperation (6 1/2 - 7 wks). It was OK, but nothing compared to the others.

The second was a strange plant. The buds were like pods with very few leaves or hairs, but covered with crystals. After 2 weeks of drying, it is killer. With it to smoke I was able to wait and watch the trichomes on the last two.

They went 10 weeks in 12/2. Finally the trichomes turned cloudy. I gave them plain water for 3 days and cut them today. The hairs on the lower buds had turned about 50%. The top buds hardly turned at all, but the trichs told the truth. This was skunk bag seed, btw.

This is my second grow. I know how the temptation can be to harvest early, but I can tell you patience really paid off this time. I was suprised to see how much denser my buds got in the last two weeks.

I was so sick of buying off the street and the associated hassles. Now I've got better weed without depending on any one except the good people of this forum. I couldn't have done it without you and hope as I gain experience I can give back!
