nederhashned, Welcome to the site
I have heard that also although I've never done it before.

I'm curious to see what everyone thinks and the theory behind it.
If it sounds plausable, I'll give it a try

It definetaly wounīt hurt... I can see the reasoning behind it, you give them all this night time to make them hurry up cause itīs time to die... They wanna catch some pollen before itīs too late, thus they produce more hairs... could work I guess.

Anybody else?

Well leaves take in the light to create food. thus photosynthesis. me personally id think let the plants go until your happy with results then throw in 3 days of darkness. they will use all that stored energy to hurry and produce more like previously stated. id checkout trichs and when u r happy with the lookings of them babys then throw it into 3 days dark them babys will ripen up hella fat then i bet.

As far as I'm concerned, that's another marijuana myth, just like hanging a plant upside down after harvest causes the THC to migrate down to the buds (no).
I heard about that technique about 10 years ago. I did a comparison.
Plants from the same donor, everything identical.
I took out half the plants when there were ripe, and left the others in total darkness for 3 days.
Aside from the plants left in the dark looking TERRIBLE at harvest (all wilted and saggy, some had fallen over), none of the people who tested the 2 kinds could tell any difference.

By all means go ahead and try it if you wanna, but I think all your doing is delaying harvest by 3 days.

The only reason I've heard of to leave them in darkness
is to increase trich production. Kinda stressing them into
overdrive. If its that big of a deal give it a go, but I'd rather
have that 3 days put forth into drying the bud.

As far as I know for sure, low humidity, high light intensity & altitude are all proven to increase trich production. Finishing with low temps is argued to do the same, along with this idea, of total darkness for a few days before the chop.. but I never saw the science for those.....I just chop mine as the light comes on, which is when I think is the best time. (ie. after a normal 12hrs darkness).

I would say that maintaining very good ventilation is a must, to avoid mold possibilities, but it may work, I don't know. Aiming for low RH as well should stand the best chance of working, and you can use Calcium Chloride to do that. Its a drying chemical, totally safe & available widely.. If that does work, I would probably credit the low RH, BTW...

Just a side note really...but on many grows, I probably cut a day or three early... My money would be that most would benefit from three more days of 12:12 light!

its a myth

it is true that the plants produce more resin at night.. but the process only occurs for a few hours ... your best off to make like kat and chop at the end of a normal dark cycle

I very much buy into the low humidity / dry conditions make for more trich but the light intencity in the last 2 weeks of the cycle can be up for debate.
I beleave in nature nows best ..... so the last 2 weeks i move my plants to corner of my flower chamber that recieves the least amount of lumens... But the low humidy and dry conditions you will loose yield for sure but if your interested in QUALITY (self supply not sales) well werth the loss of yield..... as far as 3 days in the dark well i have tried and see no value in practice..... one noted result is the bud does not taste as clean ... during dark cycle plant is loading up energy to use up in the day light i chop my plant at the end of the light cycle...... peace SgtQuick420
