Automated Curing System
permalink

I've been thinking about making an, of course, automated curing system, sounds cool huh. I want to do this because i don't have time to open my jars periodically throughout the day, it just doesn't happen. So I think the simplest, cheapest, fastestest, way to do this here deal is to take possibly one to two or more of those large one gallon jars, depending on how much medicine you've got (I bet one would hold a QP), and drill a couple small holes the sized of 1/4" air pump tubing and of course stick those air hoses in and silicone it shut if you have to, hook an air pump up to it on a timer and theres yer fresh air. Hook up one of those grommets encased in a plastic cylinder which usually come with an air pump at wal mart(they are mainly used to keep water from backdraining into your air pump when your fish tank is above your air pump) so it is sealed from the pump opening. Now the best thing i can think of to act as a valve is either yes an electronic valve or another one of those conical shaped grommets that we used to seal out intake side, maybe you can find one at an automotive store. But there you have it, screw on your lid and program your pumps timer to turn on for say 15 min. per day 5 times per day or whatever you prefer.

Sounds like it'd work to me, although i don't know how clean the air from these air pumps actually is...

it isn't necessary to open your jars during cure. it is nice to open the jars to help speed up the curing process kinda but sometimes i dont get around to it. once dry and ready for cure put em in the jar and they should be fine. if not, you put them in too early.

I was under the impression that the curing process "sweats" out certain unwanted substances of the plant like chlorophyll and the opening of the jars releases these trapped poisonoius gasses? Maybe I'm wrong but when I've just let them go on previous curing attempts, the buds turn brown, and dont taste nearly as good as when it is done properly.

If your worried about the pump bringing in bad air, couldn't you just use the pump to pull the fresh air in or pull the stale air out instead of having the pump push the air in.?

Yeah, that would work much better. Maybe you could use the intake vent on your air pump to rig a hose and secure it down with a clamp or glue or something, hey thanks LSEGHATCH, I've been smoking too much honey oil to think of that ........ .......... ...........

I think it's not a bad idea. one thing you might want to consider is having either the input or out take side with a straw to the bottom of the curing jar to bring the fresh air into the bottom and exhausting out the top through the check valves.. Or input through the bottom and output through the top. It sounds perfectly logical. If you use an aquarium pump, it should not be a worry about air quality.

Another + to it is it might actually help to speed up the curing process a bit. Should make it easier to control humidity. Would certainly be worth investigating. sort of like a POT Bulk barn.. And one of those Big Pork skin/Pretzyl plastic containers would be perfect....

You could go as far as controling Temp/Humidity with the right setup..

Just adjust your temp & Humidity level, Then Set it and forget it.. Hell RONCO don't make chit like this
