After 3 weeks of curing buds smell the same
permalink

After my last harvest I hung my buds from strings inside boxes. After they were mostly dried out I put them in pint sized mason jars. I've dumped them out onto a flat surface and spread them out and let them sit in the fresh air for a few minutes and then return them to the jars from which they came.

Strangely enough, they don't smell dank. THey have that freshly caught lawn grassy smell too them , not that delicious dank odor that good weed is known for. This was my second grow and the strain is cinderella 99. Is it possible I waited too long to harvest or what? My first harvest I seem to remember a much for pungent smell ( the good kind).

Anyone know anything about this? Shall I just keep taking them out once a day and hope for the best? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

First thing that needs to be known is whether the buds are LOOKING good. If it doesn't look good, then it might have been a flaw in your growing.

I'm a grower but sometimes I find if you break a bud up the smell really escapes! Try ripping a bud apart and stick your face right near it like pussy.

If it's still grassy smelling then what can I say

Lmao @ tazmanian. Yea When I rip into that pussy... er i mean buds they have a much better smell. The buds also look high quality as well. I've even sampled it myself and the bud is good in multiple ways. The only reason I'm concerned with the smell is because I want to make sure its finished curing before I start smoking all of it up =)

I dunno I read here on the GrowFAQ ( at least I'm almost sure I did) that for the first 2 weeks your supposed to air them out so that they don't get moldy and to let the CO2 get outta there.

Maybe someone with a little more experience can lend their hand in this matter?

I keep opening the jars daily until the grassy smell is gone, then once every couple of days for another 2 weeks.

I guess that all depends on what was in it before. Better to be wise about and give it a good hot water /soap wash imo. Thats what I did as I had mushroom cakes growin in mine before that. THey kind of left a smell behind but very subtle pungent smell.

Yes, if you have a vaccum sealer, use it AFTER your MJ has cured. In storage, less O2 = longer shelf life. Not sure how long it will keep in the freezer, but, I had some I kept for a year under these conditions, and it still got me buzzed. Mileage may vary; prices slightly higer in the west and south...
