High Garden folk! After my last harvest, I decided to explore the owrld of making hash. The following is my story: bought a set of 5 gallon filter bags: 800 micron to 35 micron (that's really tiny). I only used the 35, 55, 100, 150, 200, and 250 micron sized bags. Go to Home Depot and buy 2 5 gallon buckets and a paint stirrer attachment for a variable speed electirc drill. Stop on the way home and buy a bag of ice. Pic 1: fill 1 five gallon bucket 3/4 of the way full with cold water. Put 250 micron bag inside the 200 micron bag and place both in the dry 5 gallon bucket being sure to overlap the tops of the bag over the rim of the bucket. Tie in place with some string. Pic 2: Paint stirrer and drill Pic 3, 4 5: place the filter bags inside each other, larger micron size inside the smaller bag in order, 150 inside the 100 inside the 55 inside the 35. Pic 6: Pour cold water into bucket with 250 and 200 and 150 micron bags Pic 7, 8: Add ice to bucket with water and 250 and 200 and 150 micron bags pic 9: Put smaller micron bags into other bucket as before, tie with string to secure. pic 10: Get frozen, fresh trim. You can use dry trim, for this run i am using trim frozen fresh immediately after trimming buds. Dry trim can become brittle and add a lot of leaf material to you end product, so I elected to use fresh frozen.

pic 11: Add trim to ice water pic 12: stir vigorously with paint stirrer attached to drill. It will foam up nicely. Stir for a while - i stirred for abotu 10 minutes or so. pic 13: slowly remove 250 and 200 and 150 micron bags from bucket, allowing to drain and place in safe place, such as a sink to allow the ice to melt and not make a mess. Not pictured: dump nice green water from bucket 1 into the bags in bucket 2. pic 14: remove inner bag - should be the 100 micron bag. This is what the kief should look like. I will tell you it's a pain in the ass trying to scrap the kief out of the seam in the bag. So the next bag, i reached into the water and gathered the seam in my hand so the water would drain out of a side of the bag and the kief would not gather in the seam as the water drained. pic 15: The 100 micron bag keif on a plate pic 16: repeat with the 55 micron bag - this is the kief inside the bag - note: no seam to mess with. see? Reapeat with the 35 micron bag. pic 17: Here are the 3 levels of kief collected. The biggest pile was the 55 micron, as you can see. But the 35 micron is the most pure. pic 17: this is my new piece. Kind of a smallish Sherlock. It hits soooo smmoooooottttthhhhhhhh. Picked it up for $20. As soon as this stuff dries, it will be smokeable, but some people recommend curing kief. I'm not sure it will make it through the next week or 2. peace all

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey freakshow! Lookin real good! I bet if you did a double run with the same trim your yield would be more. I think theres alot more trichomes to be harvested. With the filters I think there is less risk of losing the purity from dry leaves. It is my humble opinion that you may have a larger yield with dry leaves as well. Can't really complain though. Thats more hash than I've ever had ![]() Practice makes perfect when making hash from what I hear. OH yeah almost forgot if its not dry already. Set a little bit on paper a plate or computer paper it will dry out in like 2 minutes.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks Rev, it was my first ever run, so I am happy and thankful to have gotten any at all. I did study quite a bit beforehand. I rinsed the 100 and 55 micron bags in the bucket and ran it through the 35 micron bag again and got quite a bit more. I'm not complaining at all. Come on over and we'll try it. I've got the stash, you bring the Arrogant Bastard and a few girls and we'll be set!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just a few tips from my experience with filterbags, Freakshow: When I am mixing hash on the first run I use a bucket without a bag. That removes the risk of catching a bag with the paint stirrer. Ice and trim is then filtered out by pouring the mix into the second bucket lined with the 200 micron bag. I don't nest my bags. I pour the green water back and forth between the 2 buckets. Each time I use a single bag in the bucket. I have found that a bungee cord works best to secure my bags to the rim of the bucket. When I am draining the water from the finer mesh bags (35, 55, 75) I jiggle the bag a little bit to keep the slurry of trichomes and water from gathering all along the seam of the bag. Jiggling the bag helps to consolidate the hash in one spot of the seam making for easier removal. When I received my filterbags the top edges of the smaller sized bags were not a finished edge. I used a lighter to melt the fabric around the edge to keep it from unraveling. Have fun! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice thread Freakshow. When I bought my bags, a clever local mantid offered the sound advice of singeing (burning the edges) the threads around the bags so they don't unravel. If no-one has yet offered that sound advice to you.... allow me to be the first. ![]() edit: well, the second then. ![]() milagro
