I am going to make hash oil with a male and some acetone. My situation is as follows: After soaking the leaves in the acetone, I know I am supposed to boil away the acetone to leave the oil. However, acetone is extremely volitaile and I don't want to risk catching my kitchen on fire. Is it possible to simply place the solution of acetone near an open window, run some fans over it, let most of the acetone evaporate, and then boil it? That way even if I do make a mistake and it catches fire it won't nearly be as severe. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

![]() | You can let the acetone evaporate naturally or you could use a double boiler (pot in a 2nd bot of boiling water) working under an extraction fan. Let me now say that I don't recommend acetone as a solvent. It does the job but you won't remove all the residue of it and it is not a nice substance to have to smoke. Phantom Ghost Who Smokes

![]() | Really? Thanks, I didn't know that. I had read here that acetone is a decent choice. Considering I've already bought the acetone, I guess I'll go with that. Is there any danger of inhaling the benzene which is a byproduct of acetone evaporation? I sure hope not. Thanks again.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | WhamJack, The problem with commercial grade acetone is that sometimes it can have impurities (including heavy metals) You can try evaporating a petri dish of it to see if it leaves any visible residue (There should be none). A splash on a clean mirror works too, but the bigger the sample the better your chances of detecting impurities. As you know acetone is also quite volitile. If you are going to use it I would recommend doing it outside with a fan. One more item, Trace amounts of acetone in the final product are toxic so give it time to evaporate, several days if you end up with a significant yield. Several people here have tried supercritical fluid extraction (butane)with great results! Do a search for more details. Harrad.

![]() | You guys may know more abouth this than me, but I would not want to risk inhailing acetone. How do you know that all of it has evaporated? What if there are still traces of heavy metals in your final product? You definately don't want those going into your body. It seems that everclear would be a better choice. peace

![]() | After reading these posts I think I'm going to make brownies instead. I have about an ounce of leaves, so I figure this method has a lot less potential for death. Thanks for all your input. I appreciate it.

![]() | I to, have refrained from using acetone in my oil making it just sounds dangerous. This EVERCLEAR VODKA seems to be a pain to find as well as grain alcohol. What I have on the shelf, evaporating on its own may turn out unsuccessful because of the lack of proper, strong recommended alcohol %. Oh well, i just I'll just check it out to see if I'm on the right path anyway. So if someone can just tell me where I can find the best possible substitute for acetone or everclear I'll be good-2-go:cool: ! SNOOPY420LUV:smokin:

![]() | Unfortunately I bet many states don't carry Everclear. I know my state doesn't. The state law just went into effect recently (two or three years ago). The highest proof stuff I can get is probably Bacardi 151.

I've been wondering about this too. It's the highest proof we can get here... I figure it'll leave a bunch of flavour behind- not always the best thing when smoking...
