I'm just about to have my first attempt at making hash oil but have been a little nervous about what solvents are safe to use (see 'white spirits = grain alcohol' thread).

Does anyone actually know that people have messed themselves up with bad oil?

Have you ever heard any reliable reports of it?

A lot of people seem nervous about it (as I am), but I haven't found any stories of anyone actually doing themselves any damage.

I know drinking ethyl/isopropyl alcohol can blind you, but my logic is that I'm evaporating the alcohol off which will get rid of most of it. The oil is then consumed by burning it which will surely destroy what little alochol residue may remain!

Anyone disagree?

All comments appreciated. We all like our highs but I'm sure you'll all agree it's not worth ****ing your health up for.

Just make damn sure that all of whatever solvent you are using is completely evaporated. I am quite sure that there have been some candidates for the Darwin Award who have managed to screw this up royally.

Complete evaporation and no heat whatsoever.

Cajunyank is all over the evaporation thing (more important with solvents like acetone than alcohol solvents like Everclear), but what I've read here and there is talk about heating solvents. I know you can double-boil with alcohol on low heat, but if you're just trying to draw THC out of trim and fan leaves, it's just not worth the risk. Finely chopped trim and fan leaves in a pickle jar full of Everclear shaken a couple times a day has worked for me for years. Consider it--especially if the alternative is blowing up your kitchen.

And don't even THINK about heating acetone.

I've used rubbing alcohol for a while now and before I was boiling it out but the after taste was horrible SOOOO I decided to try evaporating it, I just figured it would take ALL the taste out and... it does Never boil alcohol cause the taste is still there, just let it sit out in something flat so that when its evaporated, you ca get to it easier and after 24to 36 hrs it ready try it, its the easiest method and is fool proof

Is there any THC in the roots. It seems as though we have found uses for all components of the plant except for the roots. I am wondering if i boiled the roots in water, or did the alcohol extraction method of making hash oil will get me anywhere. I really dont want to throw out all my cutting and roots and such, because i live in apt. complex and it might be seen. I was also thinking of boiling the roots and eating it as a side dish. Does it have any nutrisious value? Thanks for the help.

I suspect the roots are the least valuable--in the way you mean. The best thing a healthy root ball can do is produce a healthy plant, IMHO.

Im from australia and have not seen everclear anywhere and i dont want to use acetone so i was wondering if anyone has tried useing Methylated Spirits or if anyone knows of any health risks from making hash oil with it...

any info greatly apreciated
