Anyone got any numbers on how much oil I could get from a 2 1/2 - 3' tall male plant? Probably too ambiguous a question, all sorts of factors would affect it, but still, any ideas?

Yeah...probably a little tough to figure out without seeing it or knowing your leaf yield. But I've made a lot of oil in the past and can tell you might be able to expect at least a gram, maybe more depending on it's bushiness. I never really know how much to expect...but sometimes it can surprise you! And then sometimes ya go "all that work for this?"

You bet I did. I've actually been through the entire process now. I got, like you said, about a gram outta one plant. Didn't do much for me, but ah well.

Did you soak the leaf well and work it with your hands? What kinda alcohol didja use?

When I make oil I make sure the leaf is dried well and pulverized nicely. When I mix the weed and al-key-hol I usually work it with my hands for about an hour or so (so hard with arthritis! )until the mixture is a nice dark green. I've heard others talk about letting it sit for days, but if you're using a good Everclear it won't take long to extract it. Then just filter it all through a coffee filter, let it sit for a day...or if you're jones'n like me a double boil works alright too....as long as your stove is not gas!

I'm pretty sure the problem was that the leaf wasn't dry. I used isopropyl (99%) alcohol for it, and let it sit for awhile, but it just didn't seem very potent.

...I just don't think Isopropyl is strong enough to extract much from your leaf. And from what I've read from other oil-makers is that Isopropyl will leave impurities as well. A pure grain alcohol like Everclear is your best bet!

My next project is making a trichome extractor with 150 micron silk-screen, a can and rotisserie motor. At least when ya do that you don't use every bit of leaf for your oil with nothing left to mix yer oil with! lol

It's weird, but drinking and smoking weed are two altered states of consciousness I like to do seperately. Maybe 'cause I'm a REAL lightweight when it comes to alcohol! Except for a rare special occasion...however it has been tempting to mix in a little of the green/alcohol mix into a 7Up or something!

Ponton, I'm the same way when it comes to alcohol. I used to drink and actually be able to hold my liquor, but once I started smoking, I basically gave up drinking. They are totally different states, like you said.
