And I've never had any problems under 8,900 lumens per sqft of light. I had a small white one that had huge problems with algae. Since switching to the orange bucket I’ve completely solved the problem. So I would say go for the orange!!

The Orange bucket is not light proof but maybe the color of it filters out some of the light.

I am using a home Depot bucket atm.

But, I used aluminum duct tape to cover the bucket. (better safe then sorry, makes me feel better when NO light gets in)

I use the home depot buckets amnd lids as well, but I also covered both with about three layers of duct tape each just top be sure. I would rather go too far in the right direction than to open up my lid and see a bunch of algae growing on my baby....

I agree with Wolfbain

Use aluminum tape, not duct tape on youre buckets. Duct tape has fibers that let light leeches through, unless you go 3 layers. IMO any color of bucket should be taped to be safe.
