pH and TDS meter...
permalink

I am thinking about upgrading my current pH meter. Right now i use those stupid inaccurate fish tank drops. I have the money to buy a good one but the problem is i dont know what a good one is. So i was hoping that some of you growers out there with pH meters can tell me which ones are good. I dont want to spend 100 dollars on crap. I also want to get a TDS meter but the same problem arises. The one i am leaning toward right now is a Gro check combo pH, EC, and TDS continuos read meter. (The company that makes it is called Hanna) But it cost 200 dollars. Does anyone out there know if it is worth it? All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance,

The 3 in 1 meter sounds pretty cool but my concern with something like that is, is that if something happens to it you lose all three at the same time. My preference would be to have an individual meter for each thing that I want to test. It may cost a bit more up front but it may end up saving you over the long term.
As far as the TDS meter goes I would suggest doing some searching on this site. I also recommend doing some general searches on the net as well. Use search words like "TDS to PPM conversion" EC meters etc. There are some interesting articles and opinions that should be taken into consideration. I just bought a TDS meter but I did the research after I got it. Fortunatly, I would have bought the same one even if I did the research beforehand.

Do these high dollar ph meters check ph in water and soil?Im thinking about purchasing one because of the fact that the ferts that you add in the water changes the color of the water and the same test tube kit i use rely's on color .its kind of hard to check the ph in water that you have added fish emulsion in.Dont you agree?

thanks

I bought my TDS meter directly from a Hanna Instruments distributor cost was about a $100 after tax and shipping. The same meter at my local hydro store was $199 plus tax. Search the WWW for Hanna Intsruments they are based in the UK but have world wide distibutors who can ship it to you locally.

So far it has been great to use...

Happy growing,
Cali
