PH keeps going way up?
permalink

I am using areoponics Aeroflow 20 and have 20 3-4 foot tall plants currently. My water PH is perfect out of the faucet but after about a day, it starts rising to high levels, and I am having to dump decreaser in constantly. Is that normal?

It's normal.
You're experiencing P.H drift.Just continue to add p.h down. Most hydro systems do require daily adjustment.
Incidentally, the more solution per plant that you use(i.e a bigger reservoir per plant)the less fluctuation you'll see.You don't say how big your reservoir is,but 20 4 foot plants sounds like an awful lot unless we're talking about a couple of hundread litre reservoir. So that may be increasing your problem.
Also, both the type of water and nutes that you use will also have an effect on this.If you have hard water then try and use nutes which are for hard water and vice versa.
Finally, once you've mixed your solution allow it to stand for a couple of hours before making your final p.h adjustment and only then feed it to your plants. This will also help to curb drift as chealates in the nutes and chemicals in your water will also have an effect on P.H
Hope this helps,
dev

Thanks deviant, My system is the Aeroflow 20 it has 2, 6 foot long 6"x6" grow chambers with a 8 Gal reservior. And I use B.C. Boost Grow and Bloom which is a really good hydro fert. I will try your suggestions and let you know the outcome.

Okay.

There's your problem;the reservoir is too small to support all those plants.
So the stuff I've mentioned will only help, not solve it.
Next time you have to make a decision whether to plant a lower number, flower earlier or get a bigger res'.
Hope this helps,

This resevoir is the one that came with the kit. I bought it from General Hydro. and if it was a problem with that Im sure they wouldnt make it where I could grow 20 plants. I mean there are 20 holes for plants in the grow chambers. But I will call them on it and see what they say about that. I will post what they say when I know. Thanks for replying.

They may be designed for 20 plants, but not 20,4 foot plants. How far apart are your spaces. This will give you a clue as to how big your plants should be at finishing.
For example if your spaces are 1 foot apart then your plants should be roughly 1 foot high when they finish.Certainly no higher than 1.5 feet or your just overcrowding them, which is pointless. To be honest any plant which is over 3 feet(untrained and untrimmed) requires horizontal lighting if it's to recognise it's true potential, otherwise you'll just get loads of airy/leafy buds(i.e straggle/shake call it what you like).
Let us know what G.H says anyway,

Just got off the phone with General Hydro and they said they have the same system right know with "8 -10 foot tomato plants.
And 12 feet is possible". Mine are 4 foot now and I just started the flowering process so they will grow even more. What do think about that?
By the way what do you mean by untrained and untrimmed?

Well,

Firstly,I'd still like to know how far apart the plant spacing is.Although if your saying each 6 foot long grow chamber(which is what exactly)has 10 spaces in it,then that works out at 7.2 inches per space.Which is a system designed for SOG.Even 4 10 feet MJ plants(Fully flowered) in a 6 feet long system is unrealistic.Regardless of the fact you've got another 4 sat right next to them, all supported by an 8 gallon reservoir.
I think it is possible to grow 12 foot plants which are crammed together. My point is do you really want to?
Have a look in the sog/scrog training forum that should answer your questions.
Anyway this was originally to do with p.h values so I think I'll leave it there.

Plant spacing is at right about what you said 7.2 " and 12" in width.
