Week #2 of Flowering:
permalink

2-20-04, Day #8 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 62%, Nute Temp 71f, PPM 1400, Ph 5.3.
The ppm rose a bit, which means the plants are using more water than nutes.
I’m fairly certain at this point that the smallest plant is a male. No big deal. The other two plants can use the extra room.
As soon as I see a cluster of balls on a stick I’ll remove it from the cab.

Here’s a pic of what I’m 100% sure is a male preflower.

2-21-04, Day #9 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 79f, RH 55%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1450, Ph 5.7.
I pulled the male plant today & topped up the other two bubblers with the solution from the bubbler the male plant was in.
If you’ve noticed, the ph has been really low the last few days.
That’s because I didn’t calibrate my ph pen when I should have & it was off by 4/10ths of a point.
To get the ph back in the proper range I added 1 ml per gal of silicone, which brought the ph up to 5.7.

2-22-04, Day #10 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1470, Ph 5.8.
Everything’s looking good, so there’s not much to report today.

2-23-04, Day #11 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 60%, Nute Temp 76f, PPM 1475, Ph 6.1.
Some of the leaf tips were burned today from the high ppm of the nute solution.
So I guess its time to switch to the flowering mix.
Since the flowering mix has less nitrogen, I don’t believe the high ppms will be a problem.
The plants are still stretching & are now 23” tall.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water to make the new solution.
6 ml per gal Micro
2.5 ml per gal Grow
11 ml per gal Bloom
This made the ppm of the new solution 1450 with a ph of 5.9.
After adding this to the bubblers the ppm was 1475 with a ph of 6.1.

Here are a few pics of how the plants are progressing.

2-24-04, Day #12 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 60%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1380, Ph 6.0.
The ph went up to 6.4 overnight so I added 1.5 ml per gal ph down to get the ph to 6.0.
The plants really sucked up a lot of nutes last night as well.

2-25-04, Day #13 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1360, Ph 5.7.
The ph was at 6.1 this morning, so I added 2 ml ph down per gal to get the ph to 5.7.
The plants are still stretching (they’re 27” tall now) & starting to produce more pistils.

2-26-04, Day #14 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 75f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1400, Ph 5.9.
The ph dropped to 5.5 overnight, which really surprised me. I thought it would start to drift up on a regular basis with the flowering nutes.
They drank a lot of water since yesterday as well, causing the ppm to go up to 1450.
So, I added 1 ½ ml per gal silicone to each bubbler along with 40oz of r/o water.
This brought the ph to 5.9 & the ppm to 1400.
For the last week I’ve been pulling off dead fan leaves from the lower part of the plants.
The fan leaves dying off at this stage of the grow is very normal as the light can’t penetrate to the bottom branches.
Be careful not to pull them to soon. Leave them alone until you can pull them off with a light tug.
They should be fairly crispy by then. Pulling them off to soon rob your plants of the nutrients that are stored in the leaves.
I’ve also been trimming off a few of the small lower branches. I know from experience that they won’t amount to much of anything & I’d rather not waste the time or energy letting them grow. To keep the plants from going into shock, I don’t trim more than 1 a day & never more than a couple a week.

Here are a few pics of the girls at the end of the 2nd week of flowering.
There is also a pic of the lower branches showing the trimming I’ve done & a pic of how crispy a leaf has to be before I’ll pull it off.

Week #3 of Flowering:
permalink

2-27-04, Day #15 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 75f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.8.
The plants drank over a gallon of water each since yesterday so the ppm is now up to 1500 with a ph of 5.5.
The plants don’t seem to mind the higher ppm, so I’m going to leave it there. But I will get the ph back up.
I added 1 gal top up solution to each bubbler today.
This is what I added to the 2 gallons of top up solution.
5 ml per gal Micro
2.5 ml per gal Grow
10 ml per gal Bloom
2 ml per gal Silicone
After adding this to the bubblers the ph was 5.8 & the ppm was 1500.
The plants are still stretching & are now 31” tall.
That leaves me about 5 more inches to move the light up before I run out of room.

2-28-04, Day #16 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 75f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.7.
Not much going on today but stretching, 2 more inches since yesterday. They’re now 33” tall. I hope the stretch stops soon.
There’s no sign of nute burn from the higher ppm so I’m going to leave it at 1500 until the next res. change.

2-29-04, Day #17 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 75f, RH 58%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.8.
The plants drank about ½ gal of water last night, which brought the ppm up to 1600.
I added ½ gal of plain water ph’d to 5.8 to both bubblers bringing the ppm back down to 1500.
The plants grew another inch since yesterday. So it looks like I’m going to be doing some late training.
I tied the tallest tops down enough to get them even with the other tops, which gave me another 4” of space to move the light up.
Hopefully that’s enough because I’m not so sure I’ll be able to pull them any lower.
The two tallest branches folded in half while I was pulling them down leaving a crease where it folded.
I’ve got them supported with wires so I don’t think it will cause any lasting damage. It might even make the stems stronger.

Here are a few pics of before & after training & a couple of flowers starting to form.

3-1-04, Day #18 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 79f, RH 50%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.8.
Same drill as yesterday.
The plants drank about ½ gal of water, which brought the ppm up to 1600.
I added ½ gal of plain water ph’d to 5.8 to both bubblers bringing the ppm back down to 1500.
I had to tie several of the tops down again today to keep them even with the rest of the canopy.
The highest top in the canopy is now 30” tall. They were 34” yesterday & would have been 35” by today.
So basically I gained 5” by getting the canopy even again.
Here’s an interesting side note. The two branches that folded in half yesterday, were the two that grew the most. Go figure.
Now that the plants are getting a lot of pistils, I decided to lower the humidity.
I’ll keep it between 40% & 50% for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Once the buds start to get some density, I’ll let the humidity drop into the 30s.
Keeping the humidity lower towards the end of flowering should stop any mold from growing on the buds.
If the buds get mold on them, they aren’t healthy to smoke. And that would mean I just wasted 3 to 4 months worth of time & effort.
Keeping the humidity lower makes the temp in my cab go up. By the end of flowering it will probably be in the mid to high 80s.
From what I’ve read, the plants will produce more trichomes as a form of protection from the higher temp & lower humidity.
So bring on the trichomes baby.

3-2-04, Day #19 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 82f, RH 52%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1610, Ph 5.7.
I changed the solution in the bubblers today.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water to make the new solution.
8 ml per gal Micro
3 ml per gal Grow
16 ml per gal Bloom
3 ml per gal Ph Down
This made the ppm of the new solution 1600 with a ph of 5.5.
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1610 with a ph of 5.7.
I’ll check the ph every couple of hours, as I’m sure the ph will drift up dramatically, like it always does after a solution change.
The plants grew less than an inch since yesterday, so hopefully the flowering stretch is about over. I sure hope so anyway. I’ve only got 5” left for the lights to move up. The canopy is staying nice & even too. So no retying was needed today.

Here are a few pics from Day #19 of Flowering:
Group Pic:

Canopy:

This pic shows how close I keep the light to the plants.

Various colas, crowns & a pic of Plant #1's trunk.

3-3-04, Day #20 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 52%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.8.
To my surprise, the ph only went up to 5.8 & the ppm stayed the same.
The tips of the leaves are showing new signs of nutrient burn.
So I added ½ gal r/o water to each bubbler.
This brought the ppm down to 1500 & left the ph at 5.8.
I’m having a hard time keeping the humidity below 50%, even though I’ve got the humidifier on it’s lowest setting.
The lower I set it, the more the plants transpire, which keeps the humidity up.
When I turn the humidifier off, the temp goes up to 90f & the humidity drops into the 20s. Way to low. Hopefully I can find a way to remedy this problem.

3-4-04, Day #21 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 52%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1460, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank ¾ gal of solution since yesterday making the ppm go up to 1610 with a ph of 5.7.
I added ¾ gal of plain r/o water to each bubbler.
This brought the ppm down to 1460 with a ph of 5.7.

Week #4 of Flowering:
permalink

3-5-04, Day #22 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 51%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1550, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank 1 gallon of solution so the ppm was up to 1640 & the ph dropped to 5.6.
I added 1 gal of top up solution, with nutes to each plant.
Here’s what I put in the top up solution.
8 ml per gal Micro
16 ml per gal Bloom
1 ml per gal Silicone
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1550 with a ph of 5.9.

3-6-04, Day #23 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 49%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1550, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank ½ gal of solution, which brought the ppm up to 1630 with a ph of 5.9.
I added ½ gal of plain ph 5.9, r/o water to each bubbler.
This brought the ppm to 1550 with a ph of 5.9.

Here are a few pics of the girls.
Group Pic:

Canopy:

The next 4 pics are all of plant #1. You can see the trichomes starting to form in a couple of the pics.

3-7-04, Day #24 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 49%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1550, Ph 5.9.
No change since yesterday other than they both drank anther ½ gal of water.

3-8-04, Day #25 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 49%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1470, Ph 5.8.
I topped off the res today with a gallon of plain water ph’d to 5.9.
The flowering stretch is over but I’m worried that they will continue to grow another 2” to 4” before they’re finished. This puts me in a bit of a quandary.
The lights are as high as they’ll go & if the plants grow more than a couple of inches, they’ll be into the lights.
I’m either going to have to do some more training, which will be very difficult as the stems are starting to get woody & therefore don’t bend very easily.
Or, I’m going to have to remove the shelf between the top & bottom part of my cab. Not an easy chore. It’s nailed & glued to the sides & back of the cab.
I guess I’ll try doing some more training first & see how that goes.
On another note, a couple of weeks ago my circ fan fell on plant #2. It bent one of the stems quite a lot. At the time, I didn’t notice any damage to the stem.
Today when I was checking the nutes I noticed a large split in that stem.
This just goes to show how resilient MJ plants are.
The cola on that stem has the most trichome production & is one of the largest in the cab.

Here are a couple of pics showing how close the canopy is to the lights & one of the split in the stem.

3-9-04, Day # 26 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 38%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1510, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank less than ½ gal of water so I didn’t do anything with the nutes today.
I tried to do some training yesterday to get the tops low enough to stay out of the lights. Unluckily, I couldn’t pull them low enough for them to be able to finish flowering. So, I spent 10 hours today redoing my cab,
I took out the shelf separating the top & bottom parts of the cab.
Now I have 7 ½’ in total height, so the plants have lots of room to grow.
I installed my ozone generator at the very top of the cab.
My ozone generator has a fairly powerful fan built into it, which enables me to use it as an exhaust fan. So I took one of the 4” fans out of the top of the cab & installed it at the bottom of the cab as an intake fan. Now I have two exhaust fans & one intake fan. I removed the Y connector that let the two-exhaust fans vent out one hole & installed another exhaust pipe going into the ceiling. Now each fan has it’s own exhaust hole, which gives me much better airflow.
Let’s see, what else did I do. I took out the humidifier to get the humidity into the 30s. I balanced a fan in the branches on the top of the bubblers & pointed it straight up into the plants. I took the other fan & pointed it at a wall to get even more air circulation.
This new setup seems to be working fairly well. Even though the humidity has dropped below 40%, the temp is still in the low 80s.
The only other thing I can think of that I did today was removing all the training wires. The flowering stretch is officially over so they’re not needed anymore.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow for a res change.

Here are a couple of pics of the girls when I had them out of the cabinet, a few pics of the changes made to the cabinet & one of the girls back in the cabinet.
[IMG][/IMG]

3-10-04, Day #27 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 38%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 1400, Ph 6.0.
The new setup is doing awesome.
The cab temps are lower than I’ve ever been able to get them without the humidifier & the humidity is perfect for flowering.
Installing the intake fan made all the difference.
I changed out the nutes today.
The last nute change I had the ppm at 1600 & got a little leaf burn.
So this time I’m only going to 1400ppm.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water to make the new solution.
7 ml per gal Micro
3 ml per gal Grow
15 ml per gal Bloom
2 ml per gal Ph Down
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1400 with a ph of 6.0.

Here are a few close-ups of the girls & one overhead shot.
You can really tell how fast the buds are developing by looking at the pics from 4 days ago.

3-11-04, Day #28 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 76f, RH 38%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 1400, Ph 6.0.
The plants drank a gallon of water each since yesterdays nute change.
The ppm only went up to 1440 though. So the plants are taking up close to equal parts of water & nutes.
The ph keeps drifting downwards, which seems kind of weird to me.
It was at 5.7 this morning.
The ph usually starts to drift upwards once the flowering stretch is over.
So I’m really baffled as to why the ph is drifting down.
Anyway, I topped up the bubblers today. The only nutes I added to the top up solution were Bloom & Silicone.
Here’s what I added.
13ml per gal Bloom
5 ml per gal Silicone
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1400 with a ph of 6.0.

Week #5 of Flowering:
permalink

3-12-04, Day #29 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 38%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 1460, Ph 5.8.
They each drank about ½ gal of solution but there wasn’t enough change in the ppm or ph to worry about.
So I just sat & admired them for a while.

3-13-04, Day #30 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 79f, RH 38%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 1400, Ph 6.0.
The plants have now drunk another gal of solution, leaving the ppm at 1550.
The ph dropped again today. It was at 5.5.
So I topped up the bubblers today. The only thing I added to the water was 2 ml per gal Ph Up. This brought the ppm back down to 1400 & brought the ph back up to 6.0.
I think the reason my ph has been dropping, is because I’ve been using silicone to raise the ph. I believe the plants have been sucking up the Si, which has been causing the ph to drop. This might also explain why the stems are as strong as they are. They won’t have any problem holding up the weight of a nice fat cola.
To try & stop the ph from dropping, I’m going to use ph up instead of Si to raise the ph. Hopefully this will stop the downward drift.

Here are a few pics I took this evening.
The buds are really starting to fatten up. They’re also starting to put off a very sweet skunky aroma. I guess it’s time to crank up the ozone generator.
The last pic shows some of the lower bud formations.

3-14-04, Day #31 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 79f, RH 41%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 1440, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank about ½ gal of solution each.
The ppm went up slightly, but the ph dropped again.
Not enough change to do anything today, other than give the branches a slight shake so I could enjoy the wonderful fragrance they're giving off.

3-15-04, Day #32 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 79f, RH 41%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank another ½ gal of solution each.
The ppm only went up to 1460 & the ph went up to 5.8.
So I topped up the bubblers today.
I added 1 tsp Kool Bloom per gal of water.
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1500 with a ph of 5.7.

3-16-04, Day #33 of Flowering:
No report today. I was out of town.

3-17-04, Day #34 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 41%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1480, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank about 1 gal of water so I topped up the bubblers with plain water ph’d to 5.9. This brought the ppm down to 1400 but left the ph at 5.9.

Here are a few pics of how the plants are progressing.
Group Pics:

Here's a pic showing red hairs on a few of the lower buds.

3-18-04, Day #35 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 41%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1400, Ph 5.7.
I did a nute change today.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water to make the new solution.
7 ml per gal Micro
0 ml per gal Grow
17 ml per gal Bloom
1/8 tsp per gal Kool Bloom
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1400 with a ph of 5.7.

Here’s a pic of how the trichomes are starting to build up.

Week #6 of Flowering:
permalink

3-19-04, Day #36 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 81f, RH 41%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1450, Ph 6.0.
The plants drank a gallon of water since the nute change yesterday.
The ppm only went up to 1450, but the ph dropped to 5.5.
I still haven’t figured out why the ph is dropping this late in flowering.
But I guess it’s no big deal since the plants look awesome.
Anyway, I added 1 gal of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I added to 2 gallons of water.
5 ml per gal Bloom
½ tsp per gal Kool Bloom
10 ml per gal ph up
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1450 with a ph of 6.0.

3-20-04, Day #37 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1550, Ph 5.8.
The plants drank ½ gal of solution & the ph dropped to 5.8.
The ppm went up to 1550, meaning the plants drank mostly water since yesterday.

3-21-04, Day #38 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1510, Ph 6.1.
The plants have drunk another gallon of water, leaving the ppm at 1640 & the ph at 5.7.
So I added a gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
The only thing I added was 5 ml per gal Ph Up.
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1510 with a ph of 6.1.

3-22-04, Day #39 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 78f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1550, Ph 6.1.
Not much change since yesterday.
But I took a few pics & here they are.

3-23-04, Day #40 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1570, Ph 6.0.
The plants have drunk another gallon of water.
This ppm was 1570 & the ph had only dropped to 6.0.
So I added a gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I added to the top up water.
10 ml per gal Bloom
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1550 with a ph of 6.0.

3-24-04, Day #41 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank a gallon of solution since yesterday.
The ppm went up to 1640 & the ph was at 6.1.
I’m going to lower the ph down a bit, I’ve had it pretty high for a while now & I want the plants to get the nutes they need at the lower ph for a few days.
I added 1 gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I added to the top up water.
10 ml per gal Ph Down
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1500 with a ph of 5.7.

3-25-04, Day #42 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1470, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank about ½ gallon of water since yesterday.
The ppm dropped a little & the ph went up to 5.9.
Since the plants drank slightly more nutes than water, they must have needed the nutes they were able to absorb at the lower ph.
To get the ph back to 5.7, I added 1 ml per gal Ph Down to each bubbler.
This brought the ph down to 5.7.

Week #7 of Flowering:
permalink

3-26-04, Day #43 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 73f, PPM 1500, Ph 5.6.
The plants have drunk another gallon of water causing the ppm to go up to 1640 with a ph of 5.7.
So I topped up each of the bubblers with a gallon of solution today.
Here’s what I added to the top up water.
20 ml per gal Bloom
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1500 with a ph of 5.6.
Here are a few pics of never before photographed colas from the back of the cab & a couple of group photos.

3-27-04, Day #44 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 76f, PPM 1300, Ph 5.9.
It’s time to replace the old nutes with new nutes.
I’m not going to give the plants any nitrogen for the rest of the grow.
So the only nutes they’ll get from here on are the Bloom nutes.
I’ve decided to stop using the Kool Bloom as it has a small amount of nitrogen in it, which could affect the taste.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water to make the new solution.
30 ml per gal Bloom
I checked the trichomes for cloudiness & found that about 10% of them have already gotten cloudy.
There are even a few that have a little amber color starting to show.
So I’m figuring they’ve still got about 2 weeks to go.

Here are a couple of close ups of the trichomes.

3-28-04, Day #45 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1320, Ph 5.9.
Not much to report today.
The plants drank about ½ gallon of solution each.
The ph stayed the same & the ppm only went up to 1320.

Here are a few more pics I took today.
As you’ll be able to see, the buds are really starting to plump up.

3-29-04, Day #46 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 43%, Nute Temp 71f, PPM 1300, Ph 5.9.
I added a gallon of top up solution today.
Here’s what I added to 2 gallons of r/o water.
20 ml per gal Bloom
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1300 with a ph of 5.8.

3-30-04, Day #47 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 70f, PPM 1300, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank gallon of solution since yesterday.
The ppm went up to 1440 & the ph was at 5.9.
So I added a gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I added to 2 gallons of r/o water.
8 ml per gal Ph Down
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1300 with a ph of 5.7.

3-31-04, Day #48 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1400, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank almost ½ gal of water since last night.
The reason I say water, is the ppm went up quite a bit, which means the plants drank more water than nutes.
I’ve noticed the plants uptake water & nutes fairly evenly when the ph is at or above 5.9. So, I added 2 ml per gal Silicone to each bubbler.
This brought the ph up to 5.9.
I’ll check the ppm later this evening to see if it’s still at 1400.

4-1-04, Day #49 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1350, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank another ½ gallon of solution. The ph stayed at 5.9 & the ppm only went up to 1420. That confirms that the plants can’t uptake as much P & K at lower ph levels. So keeping the ph at or above 5.9 late in flowering allows the plants to uptake more P & K, which lets the plants produce bigger juicier buds.
So I added a gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I added to 2 gallons of tap water.
Nothing, Nada, Zip, Zilch, Zero.
This brought the ppm down to 1350 with a ph of 5.9.

Here are a few pics of how the plants are progressing.

Week #8 of Flowering:
permalink

4-2-04, Day #50 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1400, Ph 5.9.
The plants drank another gallon of water each since yesterday.
The ppm went up to 1420 & the ph dropped to 5.8.
So I added a gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I add to two gallons of tap water.
10 ml per gal Bloom
5 ml per gal Silicone
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1400 with a ph of 5.9.

Here’s a pic of one of the leaves.
The purple coloring of the stem & the spots you see are normal for this stage of flowering. Since I haven’t been giving them nitrogen for a while, they’re using what’s stored in the leaves. Which is exactly what you want to happen as your bud will be smoother & taste better without the stored nutes.
I had to throw in another cola pic, just because…..

4-3-04, Day #51 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1420, Ph 6.0.
The plants drank a little more than a gallon of solution each since yesterday.
The ppm went up to 1540 & the ph dropped to 5.8.
So I added another gallon of top up solution to each bubbler.
Here’s what I add to two gallons of tap water.
7 ml per gal Silicone
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 1420 with a ph of 6.0.

4-4-04, Day #52 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 80f, RH 35%, Nute Temp 72f, PPM 1500, Ph 6.0.
The plants drank about ¾ of a gallon of solution.
The ppm went up to 1500 & the ph stayed at 6.0.
I did a trichome color check this evening & found that about 10% had turned amber, about 60% are cloudy & 30% are still clear.
So they are almost ready to harvest.
I’m going to start a plain water flush tomorrow.
I’m going to do this for 2 days then dump the water & add new water with Final Flush added. I’ll leave that in the bubblers for 2 or 3 days & then harvest.

Here’s a pic of what the trichomes look like.

4-5-04, Day #53 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 85f, RH 42%, Nute Temp 78f, PPM 350, Ph 5.7.
Today is Flush day.
I emptied the bubblers & put in new solution.
Here’s what I added to 10 gallons of water.
3 ml per gal Bloom
3 ml per gal Ph Down
After adding this to the bubblers, the ppm was 350 with a ph of 5.7.
When flushing your plants, it’s best to have your ppm between 300 & 400.
If the plants roots don’t have something to absorb, the absorption process can totally shut down, leaving you with unflushed nasty tasting bud.
Don’t use Micro or Grow nutes to get the ppm up, as the nitrogen in them is what causes the bad taste.
At 350 ppm, the small amount of Phosphorous & Potassium in the nutes won’t leave a bad taste in the bud, especially if you use a flushing agent the last few days of the grow.

Here are a few pics of the girls.

This is the left side of cabinet.

This is the right side.

Here are a few Cola close-ups.

4-6-04, Day #54 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 85f, RH 35%, Nute Temp 78f, PPM 370, Ph 5.7.
The plants drank about ½ gallon of solution, which brought the ppm up to 370 & the ph to 5.9.

4-7-04, Day #55 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 85f, RH 35%, Nute Temp 76f, PPM 320, Ph 5.6.
The plants drank another ½ gallon of solution, which brought the ppm up to 390 & the ph to 6.3.
I added 1 gallon of r/o water, with 8 ml ph down to each bubbler.
This brought the ph down to 5.6 & the ppm to 320.

4-8-04, Day #56 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 85f, RH 35%, Nute Temp 74f, PPM 130, Ph 5.8.
I emptied the bubblers today & refilled them with tap water adjusted to 5.8 ph.
I also added 4.5 ml per gal Final Flush.

Week #9 of Flowering:

4-9-04, Day #57 of Flowering:
Cab Temp 70f, RH 45%, Nute Temp 79f, PPM 60, Ph 5.9.
I’m going to be out of town until Wednesday. So I’ve decided to keep flushing the girls until then & harvest Thursday morning. This will make the total flowering time 63 days (9 weeks exactly).
Since the Final Flush additive is only supposed to be used for 2 to 3 days, I went ahead & emptied the bubblers & refilled them with ½ well water & ½ r/o water.
This gave the water a ppm of 60 with a ph of 5.9.
I’ve been informed from some very knowledgeable people, that using plain water, with nothing added for a final flush, works just as well as a low ppm final flush. So I’m giving it a try to see how well it works for myself.
I’m also turning the lights off for the remainder of the grow.
The only reason I’m doing this, is I don’t want the plants to drink to much water while I’m gone. With the lights off, they won’t uptake as much water or transpire as much. So they should be okay without adding water while I’m gone.

Here are a few pics of day 57 of Flowering.
As you’ll be able to see in the pics, the buds are fattening up very nicely.
See you all Thursday for the harvest pics.

Drying & Curing:
permalink

4-15-04, Day 1 of Drying:
Cab Temp 70f, RH 41%.
The plants drank ½ the water in the bubblers while I was gone.
The ppm dropped to 30 & the ph dropped to 5.2.
I’m not sure if the lights being off for the last 5 days had anything to do with it, but the amount of trichomes nearly doubled while I was gone.
The plants have been flushed for 11 days now & I’m sure there are no chemicals left to leave a bad taste. So I chopped them down this evening & hung them by their heels to dry.
I have both fans blowing on them to help insure that no mold will start growing on the buds.

Here are a few pics I took just before I chopped them down & one of them hanging.

4-19-04, Day 5 of Drying:
Cab Temp 70f, RH 41%.
The plants are drying nicely & should be ready to manicure & start curing in a couple of days.
I finally got around to removing the roots from the net pots & cleaning out the bubblers.
I took a few pics of the roots I thought you might find interesting.
The roots were extremely healthy & the straw color is totally normal.
The air disc I used put out a lot of bubbles that formed a column going straight up. As the roots grew, they formed a circle around the column of air. Kinda cool looking really.
I also took a pic of the empty bubbler. I left a couple inches of water in the bottom to show the amount of residue left after 13 weeks of growth. As you can see, there isn’t much. If the roots stay healthy & you rinse the hydroton extremely well before you use it, there should be next to no residue left at the end of the grow.
And last but not least, here are a few pics of the drying plants.

4-21-04, Day 7 of Drying:
Cab Temp 70f, RH 41%.
The plants are dry enough to start curing the buds, so I removed the fan leaves, cut off the excess stem & manicured the buds.
To cure the buds, I place them in an airtight Tupperware container for 2 weeks.
I remove the lid for 5 minutes, twice a day, everyday, to allow fresh air in.
After 2 weeks of curing, I’ll vacuum seal the cured buds in Mason jars.

Well, I think that about does it for this grow.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my journal & that this has been of help to some of you.
If you have questions about what I did or why I did it, please post your questions here for everyone to learn from.

Thanks for joining me,
Agent 86.

Oh Yeah, I almost forgot.
The final dried weigh in was 121 grams. (4-¼ oz.)
Not the best I’ve done, but not the worst either & definitely worth doing again.
The samples I’ve smoked so far have a smooth sweet citrus aftertaste. It’s a very pleasant up high that hits you in stages. It lasts for a couple of hours then drops off just as smooth as it comes on.
The high should get a little stronger after it’s had a chance to cure for a while.

Here are a few pics of the dried bud to close out this journal.
