I was wandering, I have had to build a large box out of soundboard for my larger air pump for my DWC buckets. Why cant I put dry ice in the box inside of a small cooler and Co2 the air going to the roots? I would think then, I could run a vented room and still have Co2. Im just thinking out loud so any ideas on the subject are welcome.

If you pump CO2 into water it follows the following equation:

CO2 + H2O -> HCO3- and H+

H2CO3 is known as carbonic acid. It will lower the pH of your resevoir. Reef keepers do this all the time to maintain a desired pH in their reef aquariums. At the pH we usually run our resevoirs at the predominant species is carbonic acid. Continually pumping in CO2 can continuously lower the pH and doesn't do any good for the plants. CO2 needs to be up in the shoots, not down in the roots.

I second Mendrel on this, co2 is not beneficial if injected to the root zone, it needs to be fed to the stomatas wich are located under the leaves. Co2 is already expensive and a hassle to refill so I dont think you want to waste it on roots. Enrich with Co2 only when lights are on and use injectors and a regulator and youll find out that your bottles last longer.

I was aware that it lowers PH but I wasnt aware it wouldnt work in the root zones. Thanks!! that answered my question perfectly.

Pimpin80 The plan was dry ice in an enclosed box where the air pump is. Obviously scrapped now.

dont scrap the idea! Just get some new air pumps and have those move the co2 enriched air above the canaopy or inside of it... wouldnt that work?
