Delta Buckets - Similar to Hempy Buckets

Hi all, new to this board but have been active on several other boards for a few years.

I'm a previous DWC dude, but now a converted Hempy grower, but the last 3 years have been using a variation of the Hempy bucket. We've been calling them 'Delta' buckets, after the original inventor from another board.

Instead of using vermiculite ( which he had a very hard time finding in his area ), he tried using 'Turface'. Its a pelletized granulated clay material, intended to be used as a treatment on sports fields & golf courses to loosen compacted soil.

I tried it a 3 years ago a loved it! 100% reusable and cheap. Going on my 3rd grow with the same medium. It has to be washed/leeched very thouroughly between grows to leech out accumulated salts. I just throw it into a big rubbermaid tub w/water and an airstone and let it soak for a few days with occasional water changes.

Some large volume growers use 100% Turface in Hempy buckets. I've tried 100% and also 50/50 turface/perlite & found the girls love the 50/50 mix. I've also tried 100% perlite buckets, but found that its too light and has problems supporting flowering plants without using some type of bracing to hold them up. The 50/50 mix is strong enough to hold up the biggest girls i've grown ( over 4' ).

I highly recommend it. You can google it and find out what it looks like & costs. In my market its ~$11 for a 50lb bag.

Turface! Brilliant!

I remember picking that stuff out of my knees on many occasions.

Best yet, you can steal this from your local baseball field. <just kidding, of course.>

Were all the plants started around the same time?

Great first post, GroweroftheDank, I'm intrigued.

Yes. Very interesting . Vermiculite is PITA to find locally.

1.8THC is starting to vegetate.

analog,

I found vermiculite at ULINE, where it is used as cushioning/spill control for shipping liquids.

hey grower, can we get an update of how those plants look? im really curious because vermiculite isn't hard to find around here, but turface is just so much easier and cheaper.
