Usually about 10-15 minutes 3 times a day for your watering if you have a drip system...or a flood system...

Light entering the reservoir can lead to the production of algae, which is not good. The light leaks might not do much, but even a little bit can throw off your pH and PPM...just tape the leaks up.

Peace.

Are you talking about an aeroponic cloner type of system? Those pumps run continually.

Aeroponic systems can run 24/0 or, to save on the pump heating up the water; 4 minutes off, 1 minute on works quite well also.

algae growth can happen if you have too many light leaks into your reservoir... A few minor leaks usually is no big deal

To check for light leaks, place a flashlight in your bucket/reservoir and turn out the lights in the room. Use thick paint or aluminum tape to seal light leaks.
