Attention Hempy Growers

So...I'm sitting here with 30 gallons of perlite and 10 gallons of vermiculite in a 60 gallon plastic container. I see so many people with nice hempy buckets--but I have to ask...How the HELL do you mix it?

I've been trying to mix this shit for over an hour. I tried stirring it, turning it from the bottom up, putting it into a plastic garbage bag and shaking it...all with the same results. ALL of the perlite stays at the top and ALL of the vermiculite settles to the bottom, regardless of method. I've tried everything except getting it wet--because that will make 40 gallons of hempy mixture very heavy.

Any hints??...cuz this is getting ridiculous.

Go moist, not wet. Be sure to wear something more than just a dust mask when mixing. Wheelbarrows make a great mixing container. Mix with a hoe.

I wear a dust mask with a t-shirt over it wrapped around my head. Think that'll be 'nuff?

Next time, don't mix all that stuff at the same time. Just eyeball the bags and mix half or quarter batches. It doesn't have to be exact, just kind of close.

I always just mixed about 8 gallons at a time, in a big rubbermaid tote, stirred it around by hand, maybe tipped it back and forth a couple times, EZ.

Yeppers. I do 2 gallon batches mixing in quarts at a time. I use an old spatula and in a bucket it stirs up pretty good.

I go 2 quarts perlite 1 quart vermiculite 1 quart perlite. Stir that. Then keep adding more quarts the same way.
