Which system?
permalink

Hey Guys,

This is a great site! I've learned everything I know about growing from this site.

For the past ten years or so I've been growing in a space 42" X 36" with a 400w cool tube sucking 165 cfm and another fan that sucks about 350 cfm from the space, all vented into the attic. I tried a 1000w a few years ago but I couodne controll the heat.

Here is my problem: My wife and I are both smokers and even though I have three harvests a year, I still can't grow enough to meet our demands beteween harvests without resorting to the street - and that gets expensive quick!

I've been using an ebb & flo system "Emilys Garden" (22" X22") as far back as I can remember ( 6 or 8 years.) I've had some great grows in it but it is beginning to "rot". Plastic is beginning to crumble and I have to be very careful when refilling not to just crack it in two.

As I said my space is 42" X 36" and I was wondering what type of hydro system I could get that will fit my space and give me an increase in product. I like the ebb and flow systems and am familiar with them and the work required for the grow. I would be OK with a different system if it is less work than an E& B. I'm planning on replacing the 400w with a 600w.

Hey There,

A 2 x 2 or 2 x 3 table with res would suit your needs. Maybe run several small plants?

You may need to rethink your grow room and schedule. Getting on a two month or one month harvest system may be the way you guys need to roll.

Keeping a mother plant or two and taking clones will get you up and running quickly and may allow you to bypass the growth phase all together once they get started.

that way, you would have a 60 day harvest schedule with one flower room depending on the strain.

If you had more room, you could add a second batch to that flower room at the 30 day mark of the 60 day flowering cycle.
Once the first group is done at 60 days, the second group would only have 30 more days to finish.
Then add another group, and so on.

Every 30-60 days you would have a fresh harvest

I would recommend using the advanced nutrients 2+ program. The nutes are fantastic and easy to use. Have you ever thought about using hempy buckets? How much height do you have to work with? Also, a vertical grow might be the answer. Idk if you have access to the Cannabis Culture forums, but there is a guy that has had alot of success with vertical grows. If you can get access to a different strain that's a bigger producer that'd be good. What kind of effect are you looking for? Are you using it for pain or for the high and are you looking for a cerebral or a heavy stone for pain or such? I've had alot of success in the past with Afghan. I was using 1000 watt HID tho. There's a guy I know of using only two 150 watt hps and got 12 oz of one plant in his grow room. He uses foxfarm.

There's your answer.

Flood a drain it. Run Perpetual.

Thanks Guys for all the good tips. I hadn't thought about staggering the planting on a 30 day schedule! Although the plant I've been growing for the last four years ( Kali Mist ) takes 90 days of flower I could still have a harvest every month. I like it.

I also ordered a Turbo Garden 24" X 36" with 25 gal resevoir. My old system was 22" X 22" and had a 7 gallon resevior. As soon as I can afford it, I plan to increase from 400W to 600W.

My new grow that I just started last week is Dutch Passion Isis. Don't know how long to flower.

I've used those nutrients that GrOwThMoNgeR suggests, I really liked them. I haven't had any trouble yet with anything I got from Advanced Nutrients. So I vouch for that advice.

The perpetual grow is a good way to go too, just keep in mind that you'll need to pull anything about to finish out of the nutes and hand-flush for a week or two at the end, so figure that in to your planning.

Just throwing this out there, but the "dutch trays" for using RW slabs and Hugo blocks are 40in x 8in. They are what I am using and they are working good for me. Probably would fit in your area. I am new to growing hydroponically tho, so i really don't know shit... except tray diminsions lol. I threw in a couple pics of plants in the trays, incase you are not sure what I am talking about. HAPPY GROWING!!!

Thanks TBFU,

That's a nice looking setup. I decided to go with a Turbogarden. It has a 25 gallon resivior. It's a lot sturdier than my Hydrofarm. It was very easy to set up and it came with all the acessories even had nutrients and Ph +/- for around $300 delivered! I just installed a new 400W Hortilux Eye for this grow. I'm 1 day into flower.
