I'm looking for advice on what type of water chiller to possibly purchase for my ebb and flow reservoir. Any suggestions as to what type and model I should get?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the current usa prime chillers are pretty common. though cheaply built...the plastic parts are total crap. and its mostly plastic. however it does work well, its very easy to service should anything go wrong. the condensor fans get wet and seize up...i imagine this could be an issue with any chiller. luckily the fan is easy to replace or you can bring it back to life with some penetrating oil and patience. so its up to you. the pump in chillers require you to buy a sub pump, one more thing to buy and worry about failing. the drop ins dont work as well...but they still work. and are much easier to get setup....however they have to sit very close to the tank they are cooling. which makes heat management from the chiller itself an issue {my chiller is set to 64 and i notice no extra heat in the room from it. it sits with the back facing my carbon filter so hopefully mos the heat gets sucked right out.} that thread pesci linked you to pretty much answers every question about chillers. scroll down to greendragons post, he pretty much lays it out for you right there.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thank you. That is a very informitive thread, though it did destroy my brief hopes of being able to grow indoors in summer due to 1) expense to buy and run chiller and 2) chillers producing more heat. I already have to use two window air conditioners just for my grow, with four total in the house, for about six months out of the year without growing the hottest part of the summer. The one cooling my flowering plants might have to be upgraded or would work a lot harder anyway, I'm afraid to make my electricity bill too high and I have enough weed to last me through summer anyway. Also Greendragon said chillers could shock ebb and flow plants and it seems like they're more for DWC.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Don't let that hold you back. Though it is important to keep your res temp stable and cool, I have never used a chiller. I grow indoors with no problems at all. Just use hydrogrzyne in your nut solution. That will keep bad stuff from growing. Just be sure to change your solution regularly, like every week

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i never ran a chiller with my e&f table....most of the time the res is under the table anyways so its kind of in the shade. i would just use HZ and maybe toss frozen water bottles in there once a day to keep it in check. if you use chem nutes just use h202 and call it good ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | honestly i never checked the temp of my nutes in the res. my pen has temp display and im wanting to say somewhere in the mid to high 70's. 76 rings a bell for whatever reason. GH flora shield is way cheaper than HZ. so i would probably try that at first... my e&f was hydrofarm mega garden 7gallon setup. my cab stayed about 85 at the canopy, but my air intakes were right next to the res...so im saying again 76 sounds about right. e&f setups are not as highly aerated as dwc, and this may be a big part of the reason why the nasties dont thrive in e&f like they do in other methods. also flood tables expose the water to intense light every so often, maybe this sterilizes the water a bit? or at least kills certain nasty pathogens. anyway around it, i used advanced nutrient 3 part, liquid karma and gh kool bloom products in my e&f res. never a drop of h202, hz or florashield and never a single sign of pyth, root rot, root snot..notta. always used r/o water, not tap. no idea if it matters just puttin it out there.
