for the most part you need a lid..... if you dont have a lid.... youll get algae and bugs floating in the res and slime and stuff..... lids are def needed

the res is not necessarily in teh room with the table...so lids arent mandatory or anything.

just keep MOST of the light out and youll be fine. i grow algae in my cloner like nobodies business, but it never hurt anything.

chances are the flood table will grow plenty of funk on its own anyways, so i wouldnt sweat a tiny amount of crap growin in there....just make sure you are cultivating friendly algae and bacterias, not the bad ones!

my res sits directly under my ebb and flow table and is not exposed to direct light and i have never had an algae problem.
