![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have decided to go with the black duct tape. I have taped the lids and about to start on the buckets. In the future, if I can't find black buckets locally, I will use the tape instead of paint. Hind sight is 20/20! As soon as the buckets are all taped up I will start the water test. I will have more pics soon.

The sealant is in place, the fittings are installed, the taping is finished and the buckets are all full of water. By the way, the marine grade sealant is some bad ass shiz...very strong. The preliminary water test have revealed no leaks, the 24 hr. test is now under way.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you can find black buckets, then you dont have to light proof them at all. I have black buckets in my current setup. Finding them local is a bitch. Quote:
I have used that sight gage for years without issue. Hundreds of folks have built my buckets and I have yet to hear of pond scum growing because of it. A few people said they use a strip of pipe padding (roll-bar rubber) to cover the indicator while not in use. | |||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The buckets have been full of water for about twelve hrs. I have no leaks so far, so I think I'm good to go.

![]() ![]() | I picked up some black buckets at Lowes the other day. You can get made-to-order spigots for these from your local beer making store. They use them to ferment the brew. Drill a 1" hole and it actually screws into the hole (tight fit) with a nut and O-ring on the inside. I like making my tops from 1/2" plywood. Use a jigsaw to cut the hole juuuuuuust right, with a bevel matching the net cup, and even a 4 ft. plant won't wiggle or lean.

![]() ![]() | Another suggestion is to cut a piece of pvc pipe to hold the air stone near the bottom of the bucket and keep the lines from getting intangled in the roots

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks nDanger, I don't recall ever seeing an air stone float, But if it does I will need to do something about it. I like the plywood idea. Is it light tight? Do you pour water through the little hole in the plywood? how do you refill your res after flushing? I like the spigot except one thing, I want to attach a hose to the drain for flushing. How would you drain the res? Is it elevated to facilitate drainage?
