Good day all and welcome to the show. This is my first attempt at building a bubble bucket. I would like to thank Daltron and Rumpleforeskin for the inspiration to try this. The pics below show all of the components which will be used. One thing I changed from Rumpleforeskins design is, I am cutting a hole in the top for access for nutes, floating water thermometer (not shown) adding Aquasheild etc... I am using the rubber stopper to plug that hole. Sounds simple enough. I am trying to avoid using the aluminum tape because of the price. A small role is around ten bucks, a can of this paint is one buck. I don't think the light will penetrate the paint and the bucket, we will see. I have read of others painting the bucket black, so lets give it a try before spending a lot of money on tape. I did not include the sizes of the components because some people might not be able to find a certain fitting so you will need to make your own shopping list. The first pic is the removal of the handles. Simply cut from the hole down all the way through. Then the handles will be easy to get out. Second pic is....well.....a bucket and some spray paint. Third pic is the rubber stopper for the access hole on top. Forth pic is the fittings used for the water level indicator both top and bottom. It consist of a 90 degree fitting barbed on one side and threaded on the other. One O ring (i might need two, not sure yet) for the inside. And a threaded fitting for the inside to secure the 90 to the bucket. The top and bottom will be connected by a clear tube. The fifth pics is the drain valve. It consist of a ball valve, female and threaded on both ends. Two O rings, one for the inside and one for the outside. One inside connecting to secure the valve to the bucket, and an out side fitting for the drain tube to connect to. Sixth pic is the drain tubing. Seventh is thread tape. Eighth is tubing for the air stone. Ninth is a 6" air stone So far I have painted the buckets and I'm waiting for them to dry. I will post more pics as I go along.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks Pesci, I thought about starting this in the hydro journals but since it is still under construction I thought it might need to start out in the construction pages first. I just got home and I'm about to check the paint. If it is dry I will start building the bucket!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First lesson learned. Drill the holes before painting the bucket. Second lesson learned. I will need an O ring on the outside as well as the inside where the water indicator penetrates the bucket wall. At this time I only have an O ring on the inside....I have a very small leak. I have two O rings on the drain and no leaks. Lessons learned and will be corrected tomorrow. Here are the construction pics. First pis is the painted bucket. Second pic is the basket installed. I am trying 3" baskets first cos I have a bunch of them. Third pic shows the stopper installed. Fourth pic shows the fittings for the top and bottom of the water indicator. Fifth pis is looking down onto the top water indicator installed. Sixth, seventh and eighth pics show the indicators inside the bucket being installed. Ninth and tenth pics show the indicator installed outside. This is as many pics as I can post at a time so I will post more pics below.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Construction pics continued! First pic shows the hole for the drain. Second pic shows the drain fitting inside with O ring installed, just need to tighten it up. Third pic shows the inside fitting penetrating the bucket. Forth pic shows the ball valve installed, as I mentioned earlier there is an O ring on the outside as well. Fifth pic shows the three inside fittings installed. Sixth pic shows the air stone and the bucket is complete inside. Seventh pic shows (my dogs nose, she is very nosy) the outside, and the bucket is complete outside!!!!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I will feed the air tube through a hole in the top of the bucket in order to avoid leaks. Well, it really is quite simple in its design, and a lot of fun to build. All I need to do now is remove all the fittings, repaint the bucket with at least one more coat maybe two and place a back up nut and another O ring on the outside of the indicator fittings, test it for leaks again and tweak any last minute leaking situations I might find, and then we will see how well this system works. Everything used to build the bucket is new from the store. If you already have buckets and paint etc. it will not cost much at all to build one. The total cost to build one bucket is between $20.00 and $25.00. But that price includes drill bits fittings and everything else. Today I built four buckets. I guess I could have bought an ounce of Tex/mex swag bag weed with my $100.00 but this will pay much higher dividends in the long run. I still have about two weeks, maybe three before I harvest, so I have some time to tweak it out before I'm ready to grow in it. Thanks to everyone who has visited and/or will visit my little journal. Any and all comments and questions are very welcome as I have no experience with the buckets. YET!!!!

Tape is less of a hassle for light proofing. Check it when your done with a flashlight in a dark room. Is that a 2" net-pot? | |||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice job. I see the rubber 'Tub' stopper for maintenance. I use the upside down lid of a 1 cup Rubbermaid fruit container. It gives me a big hole to squeeze my arm into the reservoir almost up to my elbow. Occasionally my arm gets stuck! I like the water gauge. Much easier to see water level than the dipstick and flashlight approach that I use. But, after all, I have to use a Stick. I like the drain and spigot. Very nice. I am a little concerned that, over time and with use, the spigot will lever in the hole and cause a leak. Since you are using gravity to drain, I wonder how you will capture the drained water? Or will it just run out? I look forward to reading your new journal. Good luck.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks scrub. I too am concerned with future leaks. But I might have a solution. As far as the drainage, I will attach the clear tubing to the spigot and I will probably drill a hole in the floor of the grow room and let it drain under the house and out into the yard. As far the leaks at the penetrations, I went to the local marine sales store and picked up some marine grade, clear polyurethane adhesive/sealant. It is good for both above and below the water line and will adhere to plastic. I will seal all the inside and outside penetrations.

Thanks Rumpleforeskin...do you recognize the design? I cleaned the holes but I got a nice tight fit so I screwed the fittings into the side of the bucket, which kinda threaded the hole for a tighter fit. I think the O rings and marine grade sealant will finish the job nicely. I looked at the tape but it is very expensive so for now at least I'm trying the paint idea. I'm still applying the last coats tonight. That's a good idea with the flash light. I will use 3" net pots to start with. I have always used them in my aero grows. They seem to work well enough. Right now I have one plant which has a trunk over an inch thick. This also allows me enough room for the plug hole.
