![]() ![]() | I went to hempy from DWC and can't imagine going back to ENTIRELY DWC growing. No more pumps buzzing all night, eating power, worrying about when blackouts are going to drown my roots. I would like to grow DWC (maybe with just one or two plants at a time) again and it's fun, but for now, for more then one plant I will stay hempy/IRB! I also noticed running air pumps in reservoirs 24/7 really increases the humidity of everything. of course this is increased exponentially with the more bubble buckets ya got! . i've never heard of that kinda ph problem before though....

I had never seen anything like it. about three weeks into veg my plants just stopped growing and drooped. They almost looked like they were over watered. I let the buckets dry up as best I could and then rewatered and still no affect. After doing a little digging I read somewhere that vermiculite can absorb the chemicals in the PH up or PH down that is in the water. The more it collects in the verm the lower your medium PH. After reading this I ran 1 gallon of tap water through my buckets and then two days later gave them their normal feeding without using anything to change the PH and they perked right up. I never had another problem after that. Like I said not sure why this happened if it is normal or if I was just a fluke case. I know all three of my plants all did the same thing and then all three looked healthy after stopping use of the PH solution. TC

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well i never had that problem but i always did water the pots with plain tap water(8ph) before i added adjusted nutrient solution. I figured that if the vermiculite swelled up with water then it was harder for it to affect the PH.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I just finished my first Hempy and it was excellent. I have done DWC in the past and like everyone else said it is a pain having to monitor and adjust it daily. Hempy is much easier to deal with. I just harvested four Satori females that were 15 weeks old and got a little over 3 ounces per plant under a 500W setup. I highly recommend it for newbies. The other hydro setups can be fun at first, but unless you have a lot of spare time, it can become a hassle in a hurry. In my experience, the plants in the hempy setup grow faster and produce on par with other hydro methods. I do have a question for the other hempy users out there, do you flush when you transition to flowering? I noticed on mine that they started to shows signs of nute burn or lockout towards the end of flower. It was mainly the larger leaves towards the top and near the tips of the smaller leaves. I did not flush until last week and a half. FYI = I used GH 3-part nutes mixed according to the bottle in distilled water (Tap water sucks here) and no other additives. I did not check the pH or the PPM. I wanted to do it as simply as possible on the first run to see what kind of results I would get. Should I flush between veg and flower to prevent salt build up in my medium (which is the traditional 3-1 Perlilite-Vermiculite)? And when I flush, how much water should I use? I have 2.5 gallon buckets.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've grown in hempy buckets for quite some time and have only flushed a plant mid-grow a couple of times. I just run a couple of gallons of pure RO water through it once and resume feeding the next time I water.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I love growing hempy, grows faster, and matures quicker than soil. Check out this White Widow I have in a folgers plastic coffee thing Weirdest thing, this clone didn't have much vertical growth, but the bud is dripping with resin. (no veg clone under 1000w hps ;; 5wks 3days into flowering) ![]()

I went hempy my first grow and I am sooooo pleased. Despite encountering every problem possible (bud rot, root rot, hermie, too much nitro during flowering, spider mites) I still pulled 2 ounces bone dry from a 3 gallon container. It was started indoor with CFLs and finished outdoor during early summer. I will be posting pics to inspire other beginners considering hempy. One of the things I really like about Hempy is that it was created to imitate the way plants feed in nature and the plants seem quite at home!

![]() ![]() | Yo Tao, I'm on my second hempy run (after my first DWC too) and I don't flush right at switch to flower but I do use flora kleen once every six weeks or so. I resume feeding it at the next watering. I get concerned about salt buildup and gunk in the vermiculite (maybe what caused yer burn?) and the reservoir. Also couldn't hurt to help prevent mystery pH problems I've never had but SharpCajun mentions. Flushing it with gallons of water like blue cheese may be better but I can't move my plants around much because they're big and under a screen. I like to keep the run off nice and clean and clear.
