There is a product called cannazym made by canna, this product says that it breaks down dead root material & enhances nutrient uptake by the roots. If anyone knows this product could you please let me know how it compares to hydrogen peroxide both in what it does and it's cost.

hey there
I use a hydrogen peroxide i got from my local hydro shop. Says its 50%, but use only 2ml per litre. ITs my first grow so I cant comment if it has made a difference but a question. Im using a flush system and u said it breaks down after three days..... should I resupply my supply with it every few days or is that how long it takes for it to take effect?
oh, and when mixing it wash everything that comes in contact with it, even the bottle, I picked the bottle up a week after using it and bleached all my fingers.

Does anyone know if H2O2 will destroy nutrients when added to water with fertilizer in it? I put fertilizer in a container of water, and it takes on a bluish tint and has a noticeable smell to it. But when I add a bit of 3% H2O2, a day or two later it is clear again and has no smell. Could the hydrogen peroxide be destroying the nutrients (I only say destroy because I'm not sure if it's precipitating them out or turning them into water-soluble compounds)

Sounds like something's getting oxydised if it's bleaching like that....what happens to your EC readings?

Sounds like 20-20-20 all purpose miracle grow. If it is, test results on my end: Miracle grow 20-20-20 has a chemical reaction with H2O2 3%, this causes the PH of the water mass to drop to 4.5 or around that area. Its seems to me that it does not kill all the good chems but the chem reaction can cause worse results than not adding H2O2. The chemical reaction or destruction, is the direct result of oxidation of the fertilizer and anything else in the water that is organic in nature or in a state of decomposing. The end result is bleaching of the water and its ingredients. Many nutrients and fertilizers can be used with H2O2 in hydroponic such as General hydroponic flora series. As for soil fertz, there is alot of testing to be done. The end result is you are trying to add O2 to the soil and help the roots provide nutrients and water to the plant. In hydroponic, the same is true. The bottom line is no matter what you do with H2O2 any strength, you will have to test it with your nutes or fertz before adding to your soil or hydroponic system.

Be aware, H2O2 can be the greatest or the worst thing you ever used, it all depends on how well you understand how it works and what can happen when used incorrectly.

I have read that miracle grow is good for weed and bad for weed, so make your own call there. H2O2 has many benifits but if not used correctly. The results will be less than desired.

In my opinion use the fertz, forget the H2O2, unless your having an algae or root fungus problem.

edit: vitamin_green, the break down time is quoted as being anywhere from 24-72 hours, apply as you see fit, you have to find what works best for you and your plants, and heres the bleaching explanation: " Also, the whitening of skin when exposed to more concentrated H2O2 is due to trapped oxygen beneath the epidermis caused as a result of H2O2 permeating through the skin and being decomposed by epidural enzymes.".

Lightbulb I got an idea

This post explains alot. Thanks!!! I'm sure there still are alot of ppl still confused about the amount to add for their own setup. I'd volunteer to make a simple computer program to help growers calculate the correct amounts if someone wants to give me some basic formulas. I could have it done within a few days if I can get the formulas quickly. I'm sure the program could be expanded with formulas for light calculations, nutrient mixes, etc. Just a thought. PM me or something if interested.

Hi! (Wow, first post!) Great site, have been glued to it for a couple of days... am running my fifth or sixth crop but for the first time I'm reusing my medium (Coco (which I can't praise enough over soil, another story)). H2O2 seemed like the bomb for getting old roots out, but can't get 35% as a private citizen here, only got 19.5% from the local paint shop. The drug store's 30% contained the dreaded phenacetin, so I stayed away from that one. The paint shop said they thought its 19.5 was pure, but couldn't claim for sure.
I'll give it a go on just a couple of plants first I think...

I found an excellent page for calculating H2O2 concentrations. It would of course be better if you could input the final concentration, but you'll get it right after a few different water values.
http://www.bluegrass.net/~jclark/h2o2_form2.htm
NOTE: You MUST specify the decimal as a point (.) NOT a comma (,), otherwise the calculation is way off I discovered.
It may be an easy task to include this formula (it's specified) in an excel sheet or the like, I already made one for the 10*L/C formula.

Take care, fellow growers!
