Has anyone run a continuous drip system with nothing but a Rockwool cube stuffed in a 3" netpot? Did it work out well or was the cube kept too soggy? Also, as far as plant support? Mike

I'd be a wee bit concerned about ensuring that the plant is secure, but this shouldn't be a problem if the rockwool fits well in the pot. Rockwool is used for the very reason that it really cannot get too wet for plants. It's pretty neat stuff...

Cool, thanks for Reply. That`s pretty much what i was thinking. Maybe time the watering to once every few hours till roots penetrate the bottom of the cube? Then drip constant. Hey, I saw the pics of your SOG setup, Very Nice!!. Basically - the roots will all form one big mat on the bottom of the tray once the plants mature? Any preference on brands of Rockwool? Mike

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nope, I just take 'em and pop them under the continuous drip as soon as they're in the big bad world (ie, the clones have rooted). It's one of the big benefits of continuous drip... Yup, you get a big mat of roots down there. You actually have to be pretty careful to ensure that the roots don't clog up the drain. Friend of mine nearly flooded his apartment- had about 50L that got stuck in the tray... Rockwool- I use the Grodan stuff, only because it's what the store around here carries. Works well, though.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I would just mention there are two or three (?) types of rockwool, the first two repels water, that is to say it doesnt heavily saturate and allows enough oxygen around the rootzone. The other type holds water and can easily over saturate, especially with a continuous dripper. I have been caught out on this myself so I mention it here. Grodan brand is the best medium, hands down ![]()

So, how do you know which starter cubes are absorbent or repellent? Does this have something to do with the # they list - 40/60 or something like that? How about the VacRoc Rockwool - does it compare to the Grodan? Mike

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 40/60 is the order number, most stores only stock the repellant type, just be aware of it is the message though, it pays to ask....I havn't unfortunatley heard of VacRoc here in Australia, if its standard rockwool it should be fine to use.
