Best Tub for 2 plant Bubbler?
permalink

Hey folks,

I've been hunting for the best bucket for my cabinet. I have little headroom to play with so I expect a lot of manipulation of the canopy and am trying to save as much height as possible.

I am looking at building a bubbler sufficient to veg 6 plants and then narrow down to 2 for the final stretch. I expect at least my first hydro grow to be from seed as I'm quite new to the process and cloning is a bit frightening at this point.

The cab is about 30 cubic feet (2 x 3 x 4.75) and I will be using a 430W HPS with a cooltube that will hopefully allow me to come as close as 6" to the light source.

You can view the progress of my cabinet here...

This Rubbermaid Tub is 10 gallons and only 9 inches high. It seemed like my best bet...

Anyone have an opinion?

Thanks in advance,

hey man, not too sure about the size of the bubbler for all your plants but i reccomend decreasing your plant count and adding somthing like a screen.... or keep the 6 and keep the screen...?

just some thoughts

4.75ft height is a tall order (pun intended ) You will require some serious cooling there mate, the cool tube sounds a great idea don't forget you'll still need ventilation for the space, though it's exchange rate will be greatly reduced by the cooltube. Also watch humidity when you introduce small plants, mine is so low without manually adding moisture via wet towels twice a day, it burns the plants easily

With that height, you will have to master some advanced training techniques like ScrOG or a different style of grow like SOG. I cant see you getting away without training or flowering rooted clones as soon as they hit the system. This will be seriously hampered by growing from seed. removing males from a scrog would be heart breaking after all the training work, I'd seriously think about a clone box, it could be as simple as a propergator with a couple of flouros over it, and somthing to keep a female alive during the grow, I used a small kitchen cupboard with 4x 18w flouros, to keep small mums in 3" rockwool cubes and fit 8 clones in 3" cubes in the same space. Cloning is not rocket science, you'll easily master it with a bit of research on HC, there's a pic on the first page of my current grow which should help on my first atempt I didn't lose a single clone. I would go as far as saying cloning is easier to master than LST or Scrog.

The 10 gal rubbermaid you found at only 10" sounds just right, you'll have to be pro-active when monitoring nutes as 10 gal isn't much for 6 girls, so keep your eye on the nutrients you may want to look at CC's COG garden for some tips, similar height and space

I would biuld the bubbler, grow 6 seeds out and clone them all as soon as the nodes are alternating, then flower the big plants and pull the males. mark the clones up so they correspond to the plant they were taken from (mark the mums too) bin the males and keep the female clones to clone from for grow 2 so you can SOG 6 small clones for maximum efficiency

Depending how many females you had in the main box and how big they are going into flowering, start LST as soon as you can (before flowering) leaving holes in the canopy when you pull the males. you could still introduce a screen after you pull the males, so long as your LST efforts keep the canopy at an even level it'll be easy if you think you need a screen to train to, it depends how much they are taking over the space and how many plants you end up with. certainly doable

Any newbies out there ... listen up,

It's people like San and Agent86 that are the reason behind my motivation here. I cannot thank these HC members enough for the wealth of information they've been passing on to me.

I figured my situation would be a bit of a struggle but I'm completely engaged right from the beginning of building the cabinet.

The cool tube will get here next Monday so I thought that I should collect some bag seed, build me a little fluoro Rubbermaid clone/veggie box and get crackin'!

I figure that my first grow will be pretty much a huge experiment. My expectations are not that high and I hope to collect lots of experience on nutrient levels and training (and a couple of tasty nuggets would be nice).

Of course I'll be relying on y'all for your infinite wisdom

I'm glad to hear I'm on point with the container - now I have to find it! so far 3 stores and I've found every size known to man - except this one.

I will be doing as much research as possible on early sexing to yank those males asap - hopefully I will be left with 2 healthy ladies... but I digress - no use fantasizing about that until I get my ar$e in gear!

All the best and thanks...

San had suggested that I consider an NFT grow and look for a tub that encompassed the whole square footage of my cab...

Well, little did I know that I should be looking for the tub before deciding on the cab size

I found a fantastic tub that is 3.5 inches too long!

Ah well. Back to the research I did manage to find a store that had loads of my favorite DWC Bubbler tub for 5 bucks each.

Cheers...
