Hi, I am beginning to experiment with hydroponics, and here is the hydro part of my grow room: -rubbermaid tub -1.5"rw to 5" to hydroton clay granules -2 airstones I ordered some 8 inch netpots, but will they be too big? I plan on vegging these plants for 30 days from seed, then flowering. They will be growing alongside 8 other soil plants. Also, what is an easy way to maintain water level in my rezzy? -=PIMP

![]() | bigger net pots offer more stability if growing a large bush with tie-downs, or a tall plant. but if your training to a screen then it really doesn't matter, but smaller net pots could be considered a bit better, only because more root gets exposed quicker in the begining, jmo....... ![]()

![]() | I was wondering about this myself. I also have 8" net pots and was wondering if 1 per 5gal bucket would be OK? And if I go smaller than a 5gal, like 3gal, I should probably decrease the net pot size right? About your water level question. Either you top it off every day or two, OR build/buy some sort of filling system. I am no expert at that so I can't help you there. Do a search about "water level" and you should find your answer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Here is where I differ with everyone.. I’ve been using 3" net pot forever and have yet to have a plant tip over. With all the roots below the net pots the weight is evenly distributed between top and bottom. The weight of the roots in the water will keep it from tipping over and saves a ton of space and material usage IMO.I also bet you I use WAY less rockwool and grorocks in my 3" pots then you would in an 8" and to me every little bit of savings helps. of course an 8” pot wont hurt either.Good luck,

![]() | I use 3" as well, I believe the roots are more accessible to the water and nutes, allowing for more stimulation and growth. I however train, so tipping is no prob. I thing that an 8" is way to big and uneccesary, unless you are planning on growing a mother and letting her get as big as a tree. I think small ones are fine ![]()

![]() | I can't get smaller net pots, at least not yet unless I order them from the internet. Which I don't want to do for just net pots. I think I'm planning on growing one plant soon and I was just going to use one 8" net pot in one 5gal bucket. I think this would be fine, if anyone seriously, and I mean seriously disagrees I would be interested as to why you think that. Maybe someone has used an 8" pot in a situation similar to this would like to share some info. all right Moss

![]() | Stoney - If I sounded harsh in my previos post it was not my intention. Sorry Thanks for the info though. When I complete my next grow ( don't when I'm going to start however ) I'll make sure to let people know how it is using an 8" pot.Oh, I forgot. Do plastic cups work well as net pots? Are they strong enough to hold a full grown plant? Just wondering... [Edit:] Nevermind, I'll just do a search for it... ![]() Moss Last edited by Mossimo Green; 02-04-2003 at 11:00 PM..
