What should I expect pH to do during final flush with plain pH 5.90 water? Is there a "normal" pH drift?

I'm just a few days into my final flush in 5gallon bubblers and pH is going all over the place. Up to 6.8 one day, I adjust back to 5.9 then its 4.7 the next day.

I think it's just user-error with my new pH meter, but knowing what "should" be happening to my pH during flush would be helpfull.

The ph will bounce all over the place during the flush. At least that's been my experience with it.
I start mine at 5.5 & it usually goes up to 6.+ by the next day.
I have had to adjust the ph during the flush as many as 3 times in a day to keep the ph balanced.

Later.

Thanks 86. I feel much better now.

I *thought* I had read enough posts about flushing.... but for others out there doing a search on the subject....

Check and adjust pH frequently during a flush.

Thanks again guys, Harvest is just around the corner! Weeee!

Smile While we're on the subject....

Could anyone help me understand why we care about pH if it's just plain water for flushing?

I thought we maintain pH in our res. so that nutrients don't become "locked out" and are not able to absorb into the plant. Since I'm using no nutrients in my flush, why care about pH?

In practice, I can see what happens. I keep letting my pH drift down below 5.0 (only checking once per day) and I've got brown spots all over the top most leaves. What's making this happen?

Here's an early pic of the problem. It spread a lot more during flush leaving the top leaves brittle and burned.

I do a daily flush at 5.5 ph for 3 to 4 days then just run fresh for the last few.
