Reverse Osmosis
permalink

I was just wondering whos been using reverse osmosis water for their water source. I used just plain tap water for 2 weeks and my plants kept getting nute burnt. Reason i think was because of so much bad stuff in the tap water and even though i was using the recommended ratio of nutes to water (or less nutes).
I switched before I went into flowering and the plants seem to really respond to it.

After my buddy talked about it all the time and the hydro store guy shaking his head at me when i said i was using tap i had to switch...hehe
The hydro store guy talked about it all the time too and the one time he showed me some bud he grew and it was killer.

Just wondering other peoples thoughts on the subject.

Hi Toker

Yes mate, I think I'm the exact same boat. I was getting yellowing of the leaves and curling and went through the whole frustrating saga of identifying the problem. It seemed to either be nute burn or mg deficiency but my tap water was 4EC or about 350-400ppm.

I am not convinced it was nute burn as I wasnt using many nutes, I am kinda guessing that because my base water was so full of cr@p the plants were taking in some nutes but others were being locked out. Thus causing the problem.

I switched to RO water and they seem to be getting better and im now worried about the speed they are growing. My water now has a ppm of 7.....cool

They are also now taking most of the nutrients and a lot more water so also im thinking that they felt underwatered.

All in all, im a newbie so I am not totally sure of the problems but Im very happy with the RO water. it gets a big thumbs up from me.

Im also growing hydro so the switch and cleaning the system is a piece of cake. I dont think I could handle the whole soil thing, problems would be much harder to solve.

you see, i'm so wet behind the ears, I dont know what dwc is!!!

I am using flood and drain, I am struggling a little with all the diff hydro terms, I think there are many different terms but are variations of the same thing.

But hey ho, the education continues, we learn something new every day.

My tap water is coming in at between 60 and 75 ppm with a pH of 8.0 - 8.3. I found I had to run my nutes a little light but no burnig so far. I do have a dropping pH problem that comes and goes though. Does anyone have Canadian pricing on RO units? The cost from bottled water shops is outrageous, as well as being a potential heat score.

most canadian grocery stores....

.... have a fill your own station. you bring you jug in, fill it up, pay at the cash register (like 3-4$) then waaalaaa.. RO water...

i myself have a RO system, i gotta pretty good deal on it (28$ - it helps when you have connections) but most retail for 350-400$ i'd advise you check out sears, home depot or similar, they ususally have them, and they are usually at that price range...
