My setup is a lil farther down in this section. Im not sure if this goes here or the nursery, but I am going DWC, and this is more of a problem that other hydro growers will be more able to help vs. a soil grower. My plants are about 3 weeks old. They are on their 5th/6th node I think. 5 "sets" of leaves plus the top, which is a clump of new leaves. The top is so close together I cant tell if there are other nodes.. For my solution, I added 10 plastic spoon fulls of Earth Juice, the vegitative one. Its 2-1-1. Another plastic spoon full of Epsom salt. And some Hydrogen Peroxide. I prepared my water by boiling it, then rapidly cooling it (stuck it in the freezer... the large pot melted everything in the freezer ) But a white residue formed at the bottom. I believe it would be Talc. Really fine powder when dried. I live in the city, and I think its city water, but ive heard a few ppl here say that we have well water in the apartment complex. Anyways, I filled the tub up to where my nets would be submerged about 1cm at the bottom, till my roots start growing out. I transplanted from soil by running the roots under water and getting most of the soil off. Then I dipped into some rooting solution. Its been about 2 days since they have been in hydro. There are 4 out of the 6 plants I have that the bottom leaves are turning yellow/pale green. They are getting 240W of Fluro 24/0. I dont have a pH meter or an ec meter yet (rent comes first.) Any suggestions on what the problem is?

Thnx

You said you added H202, how much?
What was the temp of the water when you first transplanted?
It sounds as if they're in shock. Are the plants drooping?
Is the yellowing affecting the entire leaf or just the margins???

Without knowing your ph, it's hard to make a diagnosis.

You said you added 10 spoons of EJ?? is that around 1/3 of the reccommended dose? If not then flush immediately with plain water and use a 1/3 strength after 48 hours.

Also what do you mean by a rooting solution? Are you talking about a root stimulant or an actual rooting hormone
such as clonex or Olivias?

If the water is fine to drink with no DISCERNIBLE tastes, it should be suitable for DWC. If you're running buckets then you really need to buy a cheap EC meter to test the dissolved salts straight from the pipes.

Provide some more info and I might be able to help.

A similar problem nearly did in my first crop.Later investigation revealed my PH to be way too high.If your ph is off, your plants can't take in the nutrients you're putting in your solution.I'd say drop the $20 at a fish store for an el-cheapo ph meter just to check it.My next time around I've got an electronic ph pen and a tds meter(both reasonable on ebay).Ph kicked my butt-don't let it get you.

More info on my setup...

I added only a lil bit of h2o2. just poured a lil in. probably 2-3 tablespoons. water was lukewarm... close to room temp. Yes the leaves are drooping. The leaves are almost all yellow/green. Sorta a splotchy look. For the recommended dose, Im not sure. The bottle says : 1 tablespoon/gallon for mild, 2tbls/gal for average, and 3tbls/gal for heavy. Its 1/2 str for mild, 1/4 strength for avg. and 1/8 of the heavy. The rooting stuff I used was a powder. Its called Rootone. It says hormone on the front, and it has a fungicide in it too. Im off to the store to see if I can return a few things (including a ph meter that doesnt work >() and get a real meter.

Thnx

So you dipped the already established roots..

into rootone??

That was a big nono. For a start if the plants already had a rootball then the addition of indolec and Buturyl (SP)acids (stuff in Rootone) would have done more damage than good. Particularly if it was a powder. I would assume that the rootball is suffocating as a result of all that powder sticking to it, that's if it hasn't been washed off by the bubbler anyway.

Here's what I'd do if you really want to save them.
Remove the plants from the bubblers and wash the roots in a tepid water and superthrive mix (at least 4 drops per gal.)

Flush your net pots and medium thoroughly with warm water.
Feed them only on plain ph adjusted water (5.5 - 5.8) for 48 hours. If your only using 240w of fluros they wont starve over this period anyway.

After 48 hours start them off on 1/2 strength (Mild) mix of nutes. Keep your ph at 5.5 as a safety buffer.

I got a pH meter. My current pH is about 5.8. How I did the rootone was put a teaspoon of the powder in about 1/2 a gallon of water and dipped each plant into the water. Were can I pick up Superthrive? I have a hydroponic shop in town, but they are really small (half of it is a bonsai shop... really cool), and I didnt see any there. Going to go flush the plants and put them in a smaller container/w normal water (ph is 6).

Rootone

btw, the active ingredients in Rootone is T-Naphthaleneacetamide and Thiram (tetramethylthiuramdisulfide). Dont know if that makes a difference. On the undersides of the pots were some gooberish materail. Looks like someone sneezed. Really gross stuff.
