Unhappy newbie needs help on what to do with my sprouts
permalink

What's up everyone. I ran across a problem today, All my seeds unexpectally sprouted in less than 2 days (white widdow, NLxShiva and Skunk #1). I didn't have any rockwool cubes yet cause they haven't come in the mail yet along with my ph tester. I'm growing hydrponically and I know the best thing to do is put a seed in the rockwool cube when it first sprouts. Since I didn't have them yet I planted them all in individual styrofoam cups. My question is can I transplant a sprout with 1 or 2 sets of leaves in a rockwool cube, or should I leave it in the styrofoam cups until they get more root mass. Also if I can't use the cubes now, then how long should I wait so I can just put the whole plant and roots in the grow rocks. I know it's tricky and you have to make sure the roots are real clean, but how tall should it be. Thanks everyone, this web-site is #1 in my book.

What i would do, is get some small subway cups or somthing, and cut it in half, and fill it with soil.....Let the pop up in there, and in a few days, cut the cup open and transplant from soil to Hydro. I did it, and my plants are doing fine. Great actually. You can look in my grow guide.....Do a search on " Soil to Hydro" and youll find posts...Just cut the cup, and put everything in warm water, and shake the dirt off. Be gentle, but also make sure you get as much dirt as possible off.....Everyone will stress this. Many will say not to do this, but i did, and if you search, youll find many sucess stories.

UPDATE.....Amazing this wasnt the post i planned on writing in, but it still works out. That is wierd.

Good luck,

TG

Transplant them directly to hydroton. Keep them watered manually every hour, except durign the dark cycle. As long as they dont get washed out of the hydroton, they will be fine. Dont pour water directly on the sprout intil it has its roots established. Definately go buy some rooting hormone, it will speed up the process. Its gonna be a rough germ, since rockwool really speeds up the germ by holding water and nutes on the early roots. Next time wait to germinate until you have all your supplies.
