what are my options?
permalink

I am trying to get my whole growing room setup and start planning for the future. Right now I have 4 plants that I sprouted from seeds that are rooting well and growing their 3rd and 4th set of leaves. These plants have been moved from my Fluro only setup to my 400w MH / 150 HPS setup (I have 2 lights, a 400W 40,000 lumen MH light that the hydro store sold me, and a 150HPS from lowes). I am using a drip system with Hydroton and Soiless organic starter plugs (basicly sponges). I just moved the plants today and its a good thing because of them had a pretty good root system growing. I still have my lights on 18/6. Heres my goal. I want to get about 6 plants per month to harvest, I am looking for small plants so I am hoping to go from cloning directly to flowering. I have a cloning dome under 2 ballast of 2 40W Fluro tubes (4 lamps total) Cool White light. Under the Fluros I can fit a few plants if needed on a drip system.

What I am trying to figure out is how I can best get clones (6 per month) without needing a mother plant, I would like to take the clones from the flowering plants if I can, that way I only have to worry about fluro setup being covered as to not mix the 18/6 light zone with the 12/12 light (they will be in the same closet). My main question is how long (in time) / Tall do the plants (clones) need to be before I put them under the 12/12 light. I know I can take cuttings from the flowering plants upto 10 days after they start their flowering cycle. What I am trying to do is start flowering my plants ASAP but I also want to make sure the plants will be big enough that I can get clones from them in the first 10 days of flowering. If what i am trying to do is stupid or having a mother plant is a smarter idea please let me know. I am still trying to find my female plants at this time so I have not started the 12/12 light yet as I want to take clones before I do that so I know which of my clones are female ones the plants show it.

Thanks for any advice.

I take clones from plants going into the flower room and it works just fine. No momma's needed. Most of that other stuff comes to you as you learn how to grow. I recommend a deep breath and enjoy your plants.

All the best,
Lollie

Thanks for your reply Lollie and the advice. The reason I am kind of freaking out is I have spend over $600 now and nothing really to show, and I have been at it for a few months. My first grow in soil messed up because I was an idiot, now that I am on hydro I am doing A LOT better. My wife just wants to see results expecially now that I lost my contact for regs and chronic is pricy. I think by my second grow I should break even (counting the money I safe for not having to buy, I am not going to sell).

I think this time just to be safe I am going to give my plants a good 3-4 weeks of growth before I flower them, that way I can get plenty of clones and pray, on my knees, every night, that I get alteast 2-3 female plants.

Thanks again for the advice, I am noticing that since I have all the tools I need now, except for a PPM meter, that my plants are looking good and even the clipping I took from a almost dead soil plant is making it okay now in my clone dome.
