why do you need a plug? you shouldn't have a dc appliance with a plug unless you put it on there yourself and there is no reason to

if space is an issue and you want a cheap fan fix get an ac-dc converter and connect that to a couple PC case fans, or just get a small osccilating fan if you just want air circulation, or do a search for an "ac inline duct fan" or an "ac axial fan", or just use a bathroom fan

your welcome schmoke

i didn't know **** about hotwiring anything last week, its amazing what you can do with the search button

Cool Don't buy a PC power supply!
permalink

You dont' need that kind of power.

I did it and regret it...I have tons of PC's so no worries here...I will use it eventually.

All you need is an old Cell Phone charger or some other 300ma + 6 to 12vdc adpater.

read this post and ye' shal be learnith...

P.S. make sure you have "twister wire connectors" or some black electrical tape! no need to be getting DC shocked now is there!

How to hook a PC fan up with a normal DC Adpater Biatch

LOL

I had this up and running for me in about 10 mins...works great!

Gin_N_Juice......doin it now baby

just like i said, but for something bigger, its not nearly enough, i'm using it for:

air cooled ballast box, 2 fans
2 air cooled light hoods 4 fans
exhaust 2 fans
intake 2 fans

now when i get more light i can wire in a couple more for the hood and when summer rolls around i'm sure i'll add a couple more intake/exhaust fans

besides fans i found a DC neg ion generator at goldmine that i think i'm gonna hook up to this as well and try 'er out and see if its worth investing in a couple more

xalted covered hotwiring ATX power supplies but if you're anything like me electricity makes you nervous and a little conformation really helps.

so here it is, diagrams, pictures and all

There are 20 pins on a standard ATX connector. You must first locate pin 14. This pin is very easy to spot since it's the only one with a green wire. All you have to do to make the power supply start is to ground this pin. All pins with black wire coming out of them are grounds. I used a twisted paper clip to make contact between the 2 pins (the green one and any of the black ones). Once your pin 14 is grounded, the power supply should turn on whenever it's switch is on. To know if it works listen to the power supply fan, it will spin whenever the power supply is on.

This is the most basic way to use a second power supply, but it's not very practical if you want to mount it inside your case. You will have to stretch your harm to the back of your case whenever you turn on your system. So the next step would be to relocate the power supply switch to the front of the case. For this, you will need a normal ON/OFF switch and some wires. Simply install the switch between your pin 14 (green) and your ground like this:

here's a link to the page i got this link from with some other options for hotwiring an atx power supply, this is the simplest one and imho the best for our application

Overclocker's Forums

I tried do this with staples instead of a paperclip and when I plugged my power supply in, it still didn't turn on. The switch on the back is on, too, i'm not that stupid. Then I tried cutting the wires and twisting them together... still nothing. Any ideas?

Thanx for the thread and the information, One thing I do have is old computer parts. I hooked up a couple already but I think I might have a fan adjuster somewhere, that will change what goes in the cab.
This sight is great, thanx to somebody or some people.
Remembered seeing about the fans from awhile back when I wasn't even considering using them. Hit search and what can I say, My hat is off to all of you who have been here for us starters and myself.
