![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Why use a computer fan? Is it because you have one lying around? You pick up a good bathroom ventilation fan very cheaply and they'll wire straight into the mains. Just a thought!

![]() | im using a huge old cpu fan and its wired straight to the mains... just cut the female end off an extension cord, and soldered the wires on, then heatshrink and silicone to seal it... it was done by a technician at my uni, so i assumed it was safe ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | How most controllers control speed is to reduce the voltage. You have to be careful lowering the voltage too much outside the operating range of the fan. Many will operate from 8-12V. Most chargers are 9V or 12V. Good luck. Choader

![]() | i think bathroom fans are too loud (at least for my situation) comp fans are the way to go if you dont need to filter. Im growing in a rubber maid box with one computer fan hooked up through the wall. before i did this i had tons of moisture inside (little water droplets). After the place was dry and well circulated ![]()

I am in the process of building some clone veg. chambers (and I'm sure a flower chamber or two along the way ). I read this thread a week ago and went shopping. Being a natural born cheap ass, Price was HUGE to me, and I don't have a pile of odds and ends around to just slap one together with. Here's what I did thanks to this post.2 - 18 gal. plastic tubs - $3.98 ea. w/covers 16"x24"x16" 6 - New computer fans - $3.10 ea. 3"x3", 32CFM, 2700RPM w/connectors 1 - Fan Controller - $9.94 ea. Nexus Brand, 4 speed controls & alarm 1 - 12V adapter - $5.39 ea. Based on 2 fans per unit, and 2 units total. the total cost is - $35.66 0r $17.83 each. With the chambers, fans, fan controller, and 12V adapter. I have recently built some 35W, 2050 lumens light units @ $5.07 ea.(that's cheap considering I've seen less powerful CFLs (without sockets and cords) in the dollar store for $9.50) Then I purchased a 2-pack of 6 socket ea., power strips for $4.30. So now if we add 4 lights per unit and the power strips we total $80.52, Or $40.26 per unit. That's all tax and shipping included, For perfectly clean brand new light sealed units that are portable, and capable of holding up to 12 clones each (comfortably). That would be only 140W of power for lights, and 12V of fan power (my favorite part as being the natural born cheap ass that I am ) And they're are tall enough to allow a plant to grow quite a bit. (and a larger tub can always be used if you like)I will add mylar throughout top, sides, and bottom. (granted I already have the mylar), but there are other options for reflection if you don't. Frankly, this could be as easy as using the matte side of aluminum foil. Now I'm a light monger, and will be adding much more light to these units, as well as fans as needed. But I very often see people posting that are veg'ing clones with CFLs that are about this wattage and lumens range. Even at this, the light units are only $5.07, and fan units $3.10 each (and I'll have the empty sockets in the power strips, and the fan controller will be able to run the extra fans). The assembly of both units will take all of about 45 mins. And no swearing. Thanks StOney, for the fan controller Idea. I didn't even know they existed until I read this thread. It was what actually motivated me to finally start shopping (that and the info I've gathered from so many excellent posts). I used to just grow from seed, But at last, I'll be enjoying the beautiful ladies I have for years to come. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will tell you where I purchased these parts. "I am not a part of any company, I have no vested interest. nor intend to advertise for anyone or anyplace where I made my purchases OK, I'll shut the H*** up now. ![]()
