You guys do know that radioshack sells computer fans/blowers that are made to attach right to a normal power cord right? I have one and it works great. Just buy a power cord, hook the ends to the wires on the fan and you're done, nothing more to it. Its like $20 a fan.

I just bought 6 computer fans for $3.10 ea., A fan controller for $9.94. And a 12V adapter for $5.39. Total for 6 complete ready to use units = $33.93. Total includes tax. If I want to attach more fans in the future - only $3.10 ea. Tax included.

6 - units at Radio Shack - approx. $120.00 - plus the price of cords in the most expensive place to buy cords in the land???

That's why we build them. I can get a 20 pack of White Widow Beans for $90.00 s&h included, and I'd still have the cash left to build my fans, AND go out to eat Yup, we know what it costs to buy fans at Radio Shack - That's why we don't go there

Oh Ya....All my fans run on only 12V total

a 12v fan is MUCH safer around water in my hydro system. Plus you can speed control them to reduce sound and vibration.

I use Stealth fans which are the quietest computer fans you can get.. they run around $6 each

StOney, I don't know what the noise rating for a stealth fan is. But the fans I just bought are rated at - 25 DBA, 32.5 CFM, 2700 RPMs, by POWMAX or MAXPOW I'm not sure ...... I just came out of the oven

StOney,

Here's the link. It's an Ebay Store. It's an actual company though "not" an individual seller. Been in bussiness for some time, so it's not one of those things that will just disappear when they sell the few they have

The fans are $0.99 ea. Shipping for the first fan is $2.95 - all fans after that ship for $1.95 ea., 6 @ 0.99=$5.94 S&H $12.70 Total=$18.64...$3.10ea.

Even if you only bought 2, it would only be $3.44 ea. The more you buy the cheaper they are a piece

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info here. I have been trying to find a quiet fan for my ventilation system and I was stumped. All I could find were some noisy inline fans. Amazing what a little research can turn up!
So if I wanted to run four comp fans, will I have to run them all off seperate power supplies?

No, If you use the Keyword-Fan Controller on Amazon Dot Com, or Ebay, etc.
You can find a unit that will run several at once. You "can" wire them in. You "can" use a computer power source as mentioned.

As a matter of fact. I just started parting out my old comp. on Ebay, so I kept the power source. They can be bought at a comp store new for $20. Or wired like StOney and I were talking about. That's what I was doing myself. Until I started parting out that comp. (I couldn't sell the d*** thing in one piece. but people are buying the parts right up. )

So to clear that up...You run the power to the fan controller. Then all the fans to the fan controller. It's all in that thread.

I just placed an order for 2 80mm stealth fans myself. I'm working on turning 2 speaker boxes into a veg and a flower box, stealth box style. I plan on using EVL's and soil. They are quite small, 25" tall, 13" wide an 9" deep. I think i should be able to work with it. Thanks to this thread I know how to wire 'em now, and I can put to work all those useless chargers I got layin around . -MR
