Banana has been under my 2 little AK47s in the bubbler for 4 days, and it's getting pretty blackened. It may not be a valid test, because seeds were from a bud's hermied AK (that had knockout bud). Cross your fingers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PS- they're 3 weeks old.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good news so far my friends .... check it out here The plants are now 38 days from germination ... and were exposed to the infamous banana for about 2½ weeks. They are long gone now .. most likely frozen in the compost pile 16 bananas spread about 29 plants ... first in 12oz cups, then into 1g pots where they reside now. Magical Cabinet's post above caught my eye ... Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes, they were badly stressed, although I never nailed down the reason to my satisfaction. Does that produce more males? Edit: actually, 2 showed no stress, both males, 3 were stressed, curling leaves and stopped growth, but one of those was the female, it was the least stressed of the 3.

In my limited experience, I say yes...maybe. The 2 Haze seeds I popped few months back were off a hermie too, and both were beautiful females. The outcome of these ones will make my mind up. Someone always says that you're more likely to get hermies and whatnot...but do you throw away bags of quality seeds, or try a few?? I don't think his plants hermie-ing was bad genetics either, pretty sure it was him (the grower). It was his first one, and he screwed the lights up so many times.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Stress.... what constitutes stress? Does letting your plant go dry once constitute enough stress to alter the genetics of the seed? Wrong place maybe for this question but it's such a continuum... from minor stress to just shy of killing it maybe? It would be great to have some studies to look at. I felt like the addition of the folic acid made a big diff in my female/male ratio this year.e Maybe this spring I could run some side by side tests... I have plenty of seeds that's for sure. ![]() Peace- OD

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OD -- That's a damn good question, and I have often wondered about the stress question. I had about 3 days of light problems. My ballast decided to break down and it left my plants in darkness for an unknown amount of time over the 3 days. A couple of them were looking like hermies, but they eventually turned out male. I know this would be a tough subject to test, but it sure would be interesting.
