I put in green bananas at 21 days & let the banana get just short of bugs before I toss it and use another if I have to toss it before day 35 or so.

Gee JV, I've never really thought about per foot banana requirements. I can say that 2 bananas worked for the 4 plants I had on a 3'x3' e&f table. And since I've just used 1 banana per plant. I'll honestly say I don't know.

I'm sorry if this has been addressed but has anybody ever heard if plantains produce as much or more? Also, do you think the baby bananas (About 1/4 the size) would be bad? I am thinking it would be easier to use more of those if you have a smaller pot.

It hasn't been addressed as far as I know. So I went a googling. I found this page on plantains but I can't find the equivalent for bananas.

Quote:
Ripening bananas give of a gas called ethylene, which develops the color as well ripening. Most fruits give off this gas as they're ripening; however bananas give of an exceptionally large amount.
I'm still looking.

Ethylene stimulates ripening of plantains. Thus, plantains that are marketed mature-green should be protected from exposure to ethylene. Plantains that are marketed ripe should be ripened with bananas (exposure to 100-150 ppm ethylene for 24-48 hours at 15-20˚C = 59-68˚F and 90-95% relative humidity).

is making me think that bananas produce more ethylene.

So if they recommend bananas to ripen plantains, then plantains must not ripen plantains as well as bananas ripen plantains, then I would think bananas better source of ethylenes (sp?) ( Who's on first?)

What sparked my attention was " hasten ripening?"

Bananas at flower time?

Me too but then I wasn't sure so I deleted the post and said that I was an idiot. I am not sure if that could promote anything bad. I have nothing to base this off (is base the right spelling? Is there another spelling?) but I'm not sure.

As for the first part, yes, it seems as though bananas are better.

On a good note, I now know how to spell banana without thinking.

I was just about to post and say what am I missing, am I an idiot too? ( do NOT answer that) Interesting, I may do some internet research, see if it applies to flowers too, or just their fruit.
Yes, "base" is correct

Skierguy had had had, while Cheese had had had had had had had had the teacher's approval. Insert proper punctuation to make sentence grammatically correct.

So sorry darlin' - I wish you'd seen it too! I'm self-promoting my idea a lot as it is ... Like I said - it's a religion because I believe it works, but I don't have any scientific facts to back it up.

I'm not going to be able to do the experiment for awhile because I want males to make F2's of the strains I have on my list. So I turned to the community and we'll see what happens.
