Hey folks. I sprouted 10 seeds and switched to 12/12 a week ago. I was only going to keep the 4 best females and transplant them to big pots, and kill the rest. All but one have showed their sex, and I'm pretty sure that when all is said and done, I'll have 6 girls, and 4 boys. I can't bring myself to killing 2 of the girls, and I don't have enought room for 6 big pots in my space. I was thinking of getting a big tupperware storage container or something, and staggering all 6 females in this arrangement. My question is this: What are the advantages/disadvantages of growing 6 plants in a big storage container like this? Good idea? Bad idea? FWIW, the floor area of my grow space is 40"x20" Thanks! -Dr_Spliffenheimer

![]() | Advantages.....more room for the roots to spread out. Able to grow more plants is less space. Keep in mind you would need a damn big container to do this right. Like 20-30 gallon size at least. Disadvantages......some plants need special care and nutes....etc. would be hard to do this in a communal pot. All roots from all plants would be one tangled mass. No way to get a certain nute/fert to a specific plant. And...if a male showed up...or you need to tranplant.....you have a hard time getting just one plant out of a communal pot. Know whut ah mean? So....yes you can do it. Just make sure they are all girlies. There are pro's and con's.... so....it's your choice. Keep on growin! ![]() cy ![]()

![]() | Thanks Cajunyank. I'm gonna wait to think about it for a little while...maybe come up with a better solution. I'm thinking that communal soil is not feasable at this time, since my seeds are from a collection of headies. They're all unknown strains, but judging from what I know of cannabis...of my 6 females, I have 1 that's mainly indica (I'm fairly certain that its Big Bud), 3 pretty even looking mixes, and 2 that look very sativa. Anyway, with this mix, I will have very different harvest dates. If there's a big delta between harvest dates, I'm likely to have the remaining roots from a harvested plant rot and damage the others. I'd really like to find a way to keep all 6 plants in my small box. Any ideas? Would changing to rectangular pots of a slightly (like 1-2") wider size, just deeper work? I'd probably look for tupperware or wastebaskets about 6 1/2" x 9" and around 12-18" in depth. Are these big enough? I don't plan on my plants getting much taller than 3' high (I started veg a week ago when they ranged from 12-16" in height). Thanks! -Dr_Spliffenheimer

![]() | yep...those kind of containers would work. You would need at least 5 gallon size for each plant. They need a lot of room for root developement. Hmm......40 x20.....no way you can fit 6 - 5 gal containers in that size. What kind of headroom do you have. Usually for ppl with space limitations....esp height....we recommend trying a scrog grow. Those wastebaskets just might work. See how many can fit in a 40 x 20 footprint. And read up on scrog. ![]() cy ![]()

![]() | Thanks again, Cajunyank. I've got just under 5 feet of vertical space. I started my flowering a week ago when the plant height averaged at 12". I'm not expecting them to grow more than 3' high...but my tallest plant is already 23" (16" at start of flowering) I've read all about ScrOG in the past. I thought that it needed to be done straight from clones, just as flowering is started. (These are from seed) Is it too late for me to start a ScrOG setup now, cause I'd love to do it. Are they too old to begin the training? ...since I know that they're all females in there, ScrOG just might be possible. Cajunyank, please advise...and thanks in advance... -Dr_Spliffenheimer

![]() | Good point, Doc. Once they flower and you are doing a scrog.....pulling the males is a nightmare. Since you now know which are the females.....no it is not too late to start a scrog. Just get the wire up.....about 6-9 inches above the soil so you can have room to get your hands under it and work. Just train each bud site into a hole in the chicken wire...and......you are a scroggin! cy ![]()

![]() | Thanks (yet again) Cajunyank. I just transplanted. They were so rootbound that I knew that time was of the essence, so I had to go with 13" round pots instead of seeking out (and acquiring) the perfect size pot...what a waste of space! I've now only got room for 4 plants. The other 2 are in their tiny 6-8" pots (I don't remember the exact size, they look like they were no bigger than 3 pints). I'll prolly have to bite the bullet and kill them at some point, unless I can find them a new home. With this much space, I may not have to ScrOG, but I'm going out of town soon, so I'll have a couple of days to think about it. They've grown so fast that I'm worried that bending the stems will do significant damage. Lastly, I'm considering buying a conversion bulb. I have a 250W MH right now. The bulbs are pretty expensive though ($80)...does HPS make *that* much of a difference for flowering? -Dr_Spliffenheimer

![]() | Doc.... IMO.....get the conversion bulb...but try to find it cheaper...like an electrical supply warehouse..or online.. for instance. You lose a small percentage of lumens converting back and forth.....but a combo of MH for veg and HPS for flower is the way to go. For the other two......if you have a little extra space somewhere.....buy some flos...and try the other two that way...and then compare the difference. The flo's will take longer...so be patient if you do that. Lastly....dont worry about bending those stems....everybody does it while training......as long as you dont bend em so far they break The stems are pretty resilient ....you will see. Tie 'em down so all those bud sites start getting some light. cy ![]()
