![]() | Hey LSD that loose insulation that goes on the floor is usually recycled newspaper, which by itself is highly flammable. But the good news is it's treated with some kind of flame retardant, so if it does burn at all, it would take a lot of heat and would burn very slowly. The easiest way to set your mind at ease would be to take a little bit, put it in your fireplace (if you have one) or bring it out in your yard or wherever, and try and burn it. If it burns at all, maybe you should consider laying something down on the floor to cover it (some thin sheet metal over plywood should do it) or you sould get some tin and fashion a little box to go around the outlet on the slim chance something shorts out and the outlet starts sparking (not very likely, but it may put your mind at ease). Or you could just move the outlet If it doesn't burn (which, again, it shouldn't), then no worries dude. Grow at will. -J ![]()

At my high school they had heat alarms that were called heat alarms and "smoke detectors " so I think that clears up the alarm thing. And as for me I have a smoke alarm wired to a house alarm so that I always know whats going on whether I am outside in grow room or inside the house. It also has a motion sensor so that everytime someone goes towards my room it trips the alarm, not a siren but it pages me on my pager (just sorta like a heads up, for security reasons. And I always have a hose handy. I plan on getting a fire extinguisher and you can buy them at Wal-Mart here in AZ for $40.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Another good idea for the grow room is a GFCI outlet. It's the kind you see in bathrooms to prevent electrocution. If any of the power leaving the socket doesn't return through the socket, it trips cutting the power. I had a reservoir heater (aquarium type) that failed on me by cracking the glass- but the breaker didn't trip, because there was no leakage of current- it was simply energizing the res... If I had my hand on my ballast or anything electrical and put my other hand in the res, bye bye Phread! A GFCI outlet would have detected the current leaving through me and tripped.Just a thought...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hello, Fire extinguisher is a must. THe foam is better. If it kills the plants, they can be replaced easier than the house or the time necessary to hide and then explain the grow fire. ![]() All electrical equipment should be run through a surge protector of GFI outlet. Nice tip. ![]() Keep any wires above the Possible water level. If you have a F/D table and all of the res ends up on the floor how deep will it be? THat's the bare minimum for electrical fixtures or wires. I like to keep everything overhead. If the plug for some fixture make it necessary to be below the res or other possible water leak, leave a loop hanging so the water doesn't follow the cord to the plug/outlet or the pump/fixture. Anytime you join two wires use threaded wire caps wrapped with electrical tape to ensure the connection. Mount ballasts and other fixtures securely to negate the possibility of falling and causing damage/electrocution/fire. If you use an extension cord, make sure it is grounded and heavy enough construction to handle the draw without getting warm. If your cord is hot, unplug it immediately. I like to use the heavy yellow or red ones used for construction sites. ![]() Keep your garden clean. Clutter and water jugs and nute bottles/bags, and soil bags, and books, and all sorts of things will seem near necessity as your grow progresses. Just make sure you can move freely. If you trip and fall into the lights/garden you'll likely be injured and the project may be totaled. Papers and bags and extraneous "stuff" is also a fire hazard. Smiles, BD ![]()

![]() | Ive gone overboard on safety because i have children in the house. 2 smoke alarms in the grow room(incase 1 fails)need 3 All powerpoints and cables have been installed and surge protected by an electrician(told him it was a fish tank breeding room) 1x2.00kg large CO2 FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSIDE ROOM. these are better for electrical situations than foam as they dont damage anything, just extinguish the oxygen in the fire). 2x2.7 KG ABE POWDER TYPE OUTSIDE ROOM. 2X 2 SMOKE ALARMS IN NEXT ROOM. Attached to the house is a 2000 GPH fire hose n pump. Basically folks if i have a fire here i want to put it out. Not the firebrigade. I once set my stable on fire........... My Pappy chased me for a week lol Now im an older type of gentleman in the fart scale I choose safety
