![]() | Hey CRAPON...Thanks for replying to my question. Your point is well taken. The problem I have is more economic. I have MS and suffer from severe joint problems that was caused by a drunk driver in 1991. It's hard sometimes to even get out of bed. I feel sometimes that it's like running a marathon with a ball and chain around the ankle. I'm also a techno junkie and never take short cuts with anything. I think i'm going to take your advice and wait a little longer till I can get the "proper" equipment to grow the right medicine. Wish me luck!! maybe i'll have some killer pics on here next!! ![]() | What i did was got me 2 high quality 120mm CPU Case fans.Split the wires and wired it up to a 24 volt ac adapter.black on black white on white. That did the trick ![]() Wonder if you could find a big heat sink to stick on the ballast.Look for an old monitor they usally have big heat sinks.

![]() | I have heat sinked ballasts/transformers before. It seems ro reduce the transformers temp somewhat but what you really want to do is get them out of the growing area using some extra wire. If you can get them some airflow(even warm), all the better.

![]() | Ahhh.. maybe even a peltier on the ballast with water cooling.. See we got some overclockers in the house maybe? heh. I got 4 120mm fans running on a (1) 12v adapter and a rheostat controlling both intake and exhaust.. Then I have a 256 CFM Elicent inline fan for the reflector (the giant FUSE). All for a 2x4.5ft by 6.5 ft tall grow space.. Insane? No. Obsessed? Maybe. I have just never heard of a 1000watt HPS in such a small space before. Gotta cover my ass I agree with PotsimusMaximus, It is a must to have the ballast out of the grow space. But doesn't need to be cooled at all. A little "medium duty" extension cord will do the trick (13 amp 1650watt). Anyways, gotta feed my babies some hydrogen peroxide at the moment... Cheers

![]() | First off, condensation won't be an issue, condensation is a problem going from cold to hot, not hot to cold. Condensation will not form in the Kool Shade no matter what. Second, you may want to cofigure your set-up so that the fan creates passive exhaust as opposed to passive intake, when speaking in relation to the shade itself. This way, you won't be exposing your fan to high temperatures. This isn't really an issue with centrifugal fans, (they are designed to withstand high temps) as the motor assemble is usually self-cooled and many times external, but it is a good safety anyway and will surely prolong the life of your fan, as well as allow it to operate more efficiently (cooler electronics..... ).In other words, blowing into the shade, pushing hot air out, as opposed to sucking hot air through the fan assembly itself. I am pretty sure these guys can ship anywhere, or can advise as to suppliers outside the US for these reflectors: (commercial link removed by moderator) They are as well by far the best prices I have seen anywhere for this type of equipment.... TGR PS, and when you REALLY want to get serious about cooling.... ![]() (commercial link removed by moderator) PSS One more thing, if you decide to have it draw directly from the grow area, you are really killing three birds with one stone, exchanging room air, cooling the light, AND creating negative pressure (smell control), at the expense of SLIGHTLY less efficient (negligable really) cooling properties of the likely-warmer-than-outdoor-ambient air temps. I have built this configuration before with a 1500cfm gable fan (on a rheostat) for a friends 1kw+ grow and had great success.....(link to og.com removed by moderator) Last edited by uncle-al; 10-22-2002 at 04:07 AM..
