basically how this lotus, a 2 seater w/ little room, can go upwards of 200 miles on 1 charge. and the karma (designed by former head bmw lead designer) fits 4, and "hauls at least of couple of golf bags" and is designed for a 50 mi range on 1 charge. you dont put gas into the karma, unlike the lotus. and the lotus is pretty ugly inside, and out, and pretty small as well. wouldnt wana go 200 miles in that thing.
where does it say anything about the lotus going any distance on a charge? i dont see it being electric or even hybrid mentioned anywhere. but obviously a car big enough to seat 4, and have a trunk is going to weigh more and have less room for batteries than a 2 seat car. also the weight of the vehicle plays a big roll in how long the charge lasts. and finally many companies still use lead acid batteries for there electrics, instead of newer lithium ion and lithium polymer technology.

there is a group that makes a battery upgrade for the toyota prius that takes it from 50 mile range on batt only to 150 miles batt only before the gas engine needs to kick in. that being said it nearly doubles its fuel mileage based on how long the batteries can work and how hard they can work {accelerating the vehicle}

i dont think the tesla is all that proven, but there is another all electric car in the works. its pretty bad ass. its like bentley sized and supposedly performs very well.

the interior of the elise is my biggest gripe. in person they just look like trash. i really think parts of them are made of wood. and im not talkin mahogany.

electrics are cool. the energy density of batteries isnt there yet, but when they mature itll be alot cooler. electric can make torque without moving, unlike a gas engine that has to "idle" you can recover electricity during braking to recharge the batts a bit and extend range.

only time will tell... the coolest part of the elise is being parked in front of a hemp field otherwise its crap.

all TS link is about is hemp used for part of the car, and how the manufacturing of the car is "more environmentally friendly"

the karma im talking about is suppose to be for city driving. average day to day commute to work, the grocery store. you know, the day to day driving that most americans perform.

now im lost, is the volt made by lotus or tesla?

i thought tesla had a little roadster ferrari lookin thing, but when i search i find some big 4 door lookin car called the volt i believe.

then theres the karma allegedly built by fisker. oh so confusing.

i think the volt is the 4 door ive seen at the auto shows, i believe it was reportedly british but it wasnt finished at the time of the show so there was lots of speculation about it.

chevy is also coming out with a volt, maybe im getting confused between tesla and chevy. who knows... im just confused in general.

tesla makes the 'tesla roadster' .. lotus showed them how to manufacture the chassis if you see it it's an exact copy ... it's aluminum sheet and extrusion bonded with epoxy and rivets. look at the cars side by side and you can see they match up

i do know Lotus set up all the suspension geometry on the Tesla Roadster

all i can find on "volt electric car" comes up the GM Volt Concept
