No offense taken. Just wanted to point out that similar attitudes exist many other places. Even here it's only been since the mid '60s since the civil rights amendment, and women are still thought of as second class citizens by a lot of U.S. males. Women had/have been treated as possessions here for quite a while, and there are still far too many people who think a good beating is the way to keep a wife in line.

Inflexible, antiquated beliefs driving the creation of unfair laws continues to be a problem in quite a few places, including the US and Europe. Irrational beliefs seem to be the main reasons our favorite plant is illegal.

I agree w/ you, in that religious fundamentalism is a major problem. It's almost impossible to engage in a meaningful discussion w/ a fundy. Even worse when the government is run by fundies.

because im reminded, that same as with our governments and their druglaws.

there are people against this in the middleeast. im reminded of pictures from iran before the fundamentalist government was installed.

those pictures couldhave been taken in the us or europe. (60´s or 70s)

komet i could name places, but frankly ive been too disgusted and angry with much of what ive read on the middleeast, to even want to research this more.

they are like europe was in the middleages, chopping off hands (even kids) , beheadings and stuff like that.

though frankly usa is thought of by quite a few as not so unlike that. (lack of medical care, deathsentences, fundamentalists in power, bad schools unless you are of the elite)

I knew a guy from Saudi Arabia though, and he told me that if you get caught selling drugs or alcohol in that country, the penalty is death. I haven't looked into it at all... just taking his word for it. But wow, that would be intense.
