Forest Service worker fatally injured during marijuana raid
by Michael Russell, The Oregonian
Thursday August 20, 2009, 6:19 PM
A U.S. Forest Service employee died accidentally today while helping to remove a marijuana garden south of Unity in eastern Oregon, the Forest Service reported.

The Baker County Narcotics Team was tackling a marijuana garden about 10:30 a.m. in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest when a dead tree fell and hit the employee.

Efforts were made to revive the man, who was not identified. But he died before a Life Flight Network helicopter could evacuate him.

The marijuana garden was about three miles past the end of a forest road near the west fork of Bull Run Creek, said Judy Wing, a Forest Service spokeswoman.

Forest Service crews often assist in marijuana eradication, she said, pulling out plants, gathering up garbage and assessing the environmental damage caused by the operations.

The accident is under investigation by federal, state and local authorities.

How very unfortunate. Just shouldn't have been there in the first place.

"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical riddle that raises questions regarding observation and knowledge of reality. - Wikepedia

If a tree falls in a forest and kills a federal agent who is violating the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, should anybody give a shit?

"Just following orders" didn't work at Nuremberg, it ought not to generate any sympathy for these jackboots, either.

Hope somebody nearby carves some nice pipes out of that tree and puts them on Ebay.

On a brighter note: renewed faith in a higher power.

OK. One more: WTF? Anbody out there been hit by a falling dead tree?

Good morning,

Thats too bad, my condolances to the family of the forestry worker..
I have an ex roommate who works for the forestry service here in Oregon, he's a fire fighter and I worry about him all the time during fire season up here cause I know he's out there playin in it all the time.
Its a dangerous job to have to worry about being caught up in the fire and falling trees. My prays are with him everyday he goes out even though he's no longer a roommate he is still a friend and prob the only one of my friends I really worry about b/c of his job.
When its fire season here, he's gone for as long as a month living in the forest in a fire camp

Have a Great day and remember those who have fallin in the lines of duty
