PA is trying to be the first common wealth state to step up and legalize the use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes. This bill is not getting enough attention, so if you live in or near PA, raise awareness. The bill has been rescheduled to be voted on for the end of Sept - early Oct of 2009.

Pennsylvania Rep. Mark Cohen (D-Philadelphia), along with six co-sponsors, has introduced legislation to make Pennsylvania the fourteenth state to legalize the physician-supervised use of cannabis.

As introduced -- House Bill 1393, The Barry Busch Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act of 2009 -- would allow state-authorized patients to possess and cultivate cannabis for therapeutic purposes. The measure also seeks to allow for the state-licensed distribution and sale of medical marijuana by authorized 'compassion centers.' The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Health and Human Services.

Rep. Cohen, along with members of Philadelphia NORML, introduced the state's first-ever medical marijuana bill at a press conference on Wednesday, April 29. For several months, Philly NORML has worked behind the scenes with Rep. Cohen's staff to draft this important legislation. You can read media coverage of the news conference here.

It is believed that Rep. Cohen's bill will face stiff opposition in the Pennsylvania legislature. That is why we need you to contact your state representative and urge him or her to support HB 1393. I just wish there were more I could do for this. Unfortunately I can't campaign or anything in my area because I'm way under the radar even as a cannabis user. I will send this info to everyone I know who's 420 friendly though.

I hear you man, I live very close to PA, I've been letting all my friends there know about this bill. I guess it was proposed back in April, and hardly anyone knows about it. It was originally scheduled to go to vote on Sept 2nd, but was rescheduled for sometime at the end of Sept or early Oct. I haven't been able to locate an exact date yet. This would be so good for the marijuana movement on the east coast. If the bill passes, I'll be selling my house and moving to PA, I have lots of family there.

I know of at least one other member here who's from PA, and I sent the link to about a dozen people I know who are either cannabis users, or at least friendly enough with me and my boys that they'd check it out. Hopefully it's one of those, tell two people who each tell two people situations.

I dunno about opening a shop, but I always liked the idea of running a small grow op and selling to a dispensary. I wonder how PA will handle suppliers and dispensaries though? Surely the 6 plants and an ounce guideline would have to be only for an individual patient. A dispensary couldn't possibly supply patients if they could only have such small numbers of plants and cannabis in stock.
