Paypal has stated that the terms of use were violated by NORML because they say their terms of use state "may not use PayPal in the purchase or sale of narcotics" For anyone that doesn't know....National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Law does not sell or purchase any narcotics, although they charge a listing fee for medical marijuana physicians to advertise through them. Write them, sue them, sure as hell don't give them $$$ and let them know why! Why Does PayPal Have a Problem With Medical Marijuana? | Stop the Drug War (DRCNet) Or read NORML's article here: Paypal No Pal Of Medical Marijuana | NORML Blog Sorry this is not NEW news this happened in June, I for some reason had just not heard of it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Even though I presently use Paypal, if it weren't out of necessity, I would drop them. Paypal have turned into online narks. I personally know of people who have online businesses, where they sell bongs in their country because they are legal. Paypal has closed down this man's account on several occassions because they considered his sales to be criminally related. Since when did a financial institute get the power to make these kinds of decisions? I think it is ridiculous. They are making moral judgments on their customers, assuming that they are doing illegal activities. Who says having a bong makes one a criminal? And who says the person purchasing the bong isn't legal. Plus if there is such a thing as that legal bud crap, then who is to say they are not purchasing it to use it for this. Yuck! Thats a gross thought but you know what I mean. It is crazy. Paypal are WELL known for seizing people's accounts if they happen to be suspicious. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | Here is the e-mail I just sent them (sorry Catholics lol): Your refusal to allow donations to such a legitimate organization as NORML shows ignorance and moral imposition rivaled only by the likes of the Catholic Church. NORML is an organization for law reform. They do not sell anything. They do not partake in any illegal activities. This is like banning payment to the Boston Tea Party because they oppose the British! PAYPAL: STOP TAKING SIDES; STOP IMPOSING MORALITY I and thousands of others who feel the same are boycotting your service. Good luck with these policies - you will only anger more people this way.

![]() ![]() | evidently there's already a whole campaign of anti-pay pal people for other reasons. Mainly having their accounts frozen and suspecting paypal of making money on interest. Maybe encourage sellers to use alternative web sites that offer the same service? Really it seems that they are able to effect a lot if they can cut online donations from sites. All they do is make money off money even though they're not a bank. If a third party specialized in transferring funds they could even help fund other political campaigns. I guess they're name is just so trusted because they're under eBay.....?

![]() | this isn't even a surprise. i'm unhappy with this as well, but, realistically, considering the small percentage of people who know about this, along with the even smaller percentage who feel they should do something about it rather than merely talk about it and the fact that paypal is an all present standard medium for money exchange on the online market makes it highly unlikely any sort of boycott would work to defeat paypal policies. but, using a convenient third party, if it exists, money exchange system would would help boost NORML funds. i think our priority should be to focus on finding alternatives rather than defeating near impossible policies.

![]() ![]() | No doubt focus should be on alternatives to keep NORML's online funding. Although Paypal may or may not care what we think, any money that's NOT transferred online through them is less change in their pockets and a STRIKE against their empire! Practices of the online marketplace are still such a new horizon, I think there's room for alternatives. Speaking of their rise to power under eBay, has anybody heard about eBay's CEO running as the next republican governor of CA?
