I am out here in Thailand this week, doing a bit of consulting work.

Have been speaking to many of the locals about hemp. Most don't even know the word anymore. None of them know about the long history that cannabis has had in their country. The government crackdown on da herb has been so complete, that in effect a major portion of the culture, their community, and their industry has been stolen from them without their knowledge.

I made sure to pass out many links to The Emperor Wears no Clothes.

However, the really scary part was my conversation with a fellow from Singapore. A british ex-pat who has been living here for the better part of 15 years. A fellow in his late thirties, or perhaps early forties. When we starting talking about mj, he said...

"Oh, we solved the drug problem in Singapore. If anyone is caught with even a gram of mj, they are executed. Now we have no problem at all."

And he seemed happy about it.

I ask you.. how do you even begin to have a conversation with someone after a statement like that?

There really is no justice in the world, brothers and sisters.

The executions stem from the opium wars, etc that took place in the 1800's. The only way China decided to solve the problem was to brutally execute anyone in possession of opium, including entire families. I suppose the practice spread to thailand as well.

Executing anyone over possession of a plant is insanity, but people like to do what they are told
